Simple design and much like an old grandfather clock, but what a great idea!

I'm wondering if something like this can be made from an old grandfather clock? Wind up the light, and let it go...

Clever little idea. And it works. Of course the light from a kerosene light or candle is softer and warmer. But the LED gravity light has it's place and is safer than combustion lighting.

Neat idea. But, as far as reducing health issues, I wonder how many of these poor villagers are still going to burn wood (and other materials) to provide heat for their dwellings?

I bought a flash light in Walmart that you charge the batteries with a cranked magneto. It lasted 5 years and then it got smashed. It cost 4 dollars and change

Natural Science.
Someone go wind up the stove.

It's a clever idea and can also work with a windup mechanism. But, can anyone explain why it is not "free energy" ?

Well technically, the person pulling the weight up expended their own energy to power it. So in reality, it's powered by last night's dinner.

Because you're just converting mechanical energy into electrical (And then into light). You lift the weight (Mechanical).

Smarty-pants. I like my answer better.

It's great unless you live in a gravity-free zone.

Aw, why not let the rats power the lights? ;)

Because they were last night's dinner for the one who lifts the rocks.

That can be a problem.... ;)

That don't look like no rat to me.
