Sometimes I don't know who drives me more meshugah, my wife or my daughter. I love them both to pieces, but sometimes...

Case in point: Tomorrow night, WWE "Smackdown" comes to Pittsburgh. Jess and 3 of her friends wanted tickets. I've learned from experience that Ticketmaster's surcharges & shipping charges approach outrageous, and that if you want decent seats, you don't wait. So 2 months ago, when this was announced, I walked up to Consol at lunch time and bought the tickets.

I've also learned from experience that the friends sometimes have a tendancy to bail. I didn't feel like getting stuck with 3 $35 tickets (I don't mind buying Jess hers, of course), or worse... having to USE one of the tickets myself *ugh*. So I tried to insist that the tickets be paid for right after I got them. Then if a kid bails, it's their problem, not mine.

Of course, my wife puts the kibosh on that plan. Don't I trust the kids? (No) So I've had to wait until tomorrow for the ticket money.

And, you guessed it... one kid bailed today. She claims that she has a doctor's appointment at 7 PM that she didn't know about, until her mother told her yesterday. Riiiiight. Translation: Either she didn't bother to ask in advance, or permission was denied for one reason or another, or she changed her mind (or didn't have the shekels).

My wife's attitude? "Oh well. What did you expect?" *sigh*

My daughter's? "Dad, I'm SORRRRRRRRRY." So, did you tell your friend she still owes me for the ticket? "But Dad, she said if she's not going, her parents won't let her PAY for it!" *sigh*

I must have "sucker" tattooed on me somewhere where I can't see it.

WWE Smackdown?

Didn't realize the was on the YYL "must do" list. I got tagged for They Might Be Giants tix, when a buddy of my daughters bailed.

Seriously, if she really wanted to go, I would have done the same thing re: advance tickets. LMFD *probably* should have told the buds in advance that you got the good seats, and bailed you out with the onus on her buddies to pony up.

You'll hear about your generosity in about 10 years when you get the "you were a great Dad when I was a teenage" speech.

And that's when the "Arm bar take-down" will come into play. YOU ROCK DAD. This is the stuff family memories are made of.

At least you didn't do the Gangnam Style dance. We hope..........

Yeah. Gotta tell you, Bob, the Tide versus Touchdown Jesus makes me want to puke.

But I'll take the Tide over an over rated ND team.

I wanted to see Oregon v. K-State.

Go Niners. Great game last night. I got to watch it! No cable here, but it was on NBC Sunday night football! Niners next week too!

I am the last "TIDE" fan on Earth. But against ND, I must be for them. I was in Miami the day Sabans made his move. I LOL every time I think of the newscasts. I do suck up my pride when I see what he is doing with that team every year. He can get the job done. I still don't care for him, though.

Yeah. Blame her brother. He got her hooked on it back before he graduated from HS, and she was just a baby. Gave the boss fits when he "performed" a "sharpshooter" on her.

Oh, I did forget to mention that we had one of the original kids bail about 2 weeks ago, but she was quickly replaced. The kid who bailed then was BFF with the one who just bailed on us... and the one who just bailed on us wasn't too thrilled about the YL who replaced her BFF, since she was BFF with the OTHER girl.

Or something like that. I think. I've given up keeping track of this stuff.

We will go through this exercise again in the spring. I'm NOT springing for advance tickets again. Not after this. (Yeah, right, I'm sure I'll get over-ruled on THAT decision again...)

10 years, huh? We'll see. It's been almost 15, and I'm finally now hearing that from her brother... of course, now that he has a 3 1/2 year old, he's beginning to finally understand...

One of the greatest events ive ever had the pleasure of attending....Midget Wrestling!

I know that all of you will be shocked, shocked I say, to hear this...

The 2nd replacement girl can't come. Mom said no.
Another possible replace? Nope. Different Mom, same answer.

So I have to eat a ticket.

(No, I'm NOT going. What's worse than watching rasslin' with one screaming teenager, namely LMFD, by my side? 2 more screaming with her!)

Now, as for the original girl... I pointed out that she ought to pay for the ticket. 3 guesses, first 2 don't count...

"But dad! If I insist she pay for the ticket, she won't be my friend anymore!" (Yeah, right, some friend)

And mom adds "It's not her fault, her MOTHER said no." Ask her mother to pay then?... nah, I know when the cause is lost.

I just hope the other two show up (due in a half hour) and WITH their money.

"Never again!" Of course, I said that the last time...

The fix is simple:

The daughter pays for whomever bails. She didn't choose wisely, or at least qualify her choices up front.

Being hit with the bill will possibly cause a re-think on future occurrences.

'Nother tear of reminiscing. Watching Studio Wrestling with my Dad on Channel 11 WIIC. Pie Traynor and Bruno Samartino are the only two names I can remember. Oh yah, in a gravelly voice "Who can...Ameri-can!" Wow that was about 40 years ago.

My uncle used to wrestle Sammartino (Sr), Pampero Firpo and George (the Animal) Steele way back in the day.

He had some interesting stories to tell regarding George, who was absolutely nothing like he was portrayed.

Kayfabe and all that.

However, the boss agrees with me that next time, it's $$ upfront at the time the tickets are purchased.

I guess I don't get it. How is it "punishing" LFMD because YOU are holding her accountable for you eating the tickets based on her representation of her friend's commitments? I probably would have been a little PO'd at my daughter for pulling that. But then again, I had no counterforce to deal with then.

Disconnect. It sends the wrong message to LMFD.

And LMFD herself told me that next time, she gets the shekels first. She did go through a little stress trying to find a replacement today; actually had 2 different kids lined up, but both times Mom said "no" to a last minute evening trip downtown. So it's not like she got off scott free.

Now, I could press the point, make everyone miserable, and not have the boss talk to me for a week. (Yeah, I know, it's a tempting thought sometimes). Which ends up in a win-the-battle lose-the-war type situation.

Just can't win sometimes.

WWE is a cross between badly-performed performance art and soft-core gay porn. a friend and i used to go years ago (at the time there were two brands, and we went to the "smarter" brand for the basest reasons). seriously, though ... $35/seat? you're getting off cheaply ... to see a particular match in las vegas i had to have a friend pull in some favors and then we paid *only* $150/seat. we were just a few rows from the ring.

I'm not telling LMFD that. It would spoil it for her. Let her have her illusions a little while longer.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Many, many years ago, I took my son & a friend of his to the old Civic Arena for a WWF performance. I laughed my, ah, head off, it was so ridiculous (got a lot of dirty looks from the kids, they took it all seriously back then. Well, they were about 14...). The one that sticks in my mind was the pseudo-Native American Warrior called Totanka. The guy's announced, comes running down the entrance aisle at full tilt, and just as he gets to the ring, BAM! some dwarf in a clown suit, Dink (the miniature Doink) slams him in the back of the head with a metal chair. Down goes Totanka! Hits the floor, arms and legs shaking in a pseudo-Hollywood-grand mal-type seizure. The crowd roars, Dink runs away, Totanka stops moving, two referees come running down with a stretcher, roll him on it, haul him away.

Now in real life, he'd be on his way to the hospital for a CAT scan, maybe a concussion, right? But this is the WWF after all.

An hour or so later, after a few matches and a short intermission, the rassler's for the next match are announced. One of them is... Totanka! Guy comes running down the aisle, almost exactly as he did earlier... not a mark on him, not a sign that anything had happened to him. Of course, the crowd roars, the kids cheer him on, and he wins his match.

Riiiiiiiiight.

Realistic? That's one thing that the WWE (nee WWF) ain't.

Lucky you. Mine are currently obsessed with One Direction and Ed Sheeran. Ed Sheeran is actually pretty good. Some of his stuff is kinda folky, which I like, and he has talent. One Direction? Gah! They can't go the way of NKOTB fast enough.

Believe it or not, the first time I heard the word "meshugah" was when I was in first grade in catholic school from a Catholic nun. Now, this may sound strange but this was in Brooklyn where so many different ethnic groups, nationalities, and religions lived so close by each other. You could be in an Italian catholic neighborhood one minute and walk a block in one direction and be in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood. It was one of the more remarkable aspects of growing up in New York City. So many different people of different ethnicity, religion, nationality, etc. all living side by side, Its one of the things I love about NYC.

Which is also like badly performed performance art mixed with softcore gay porn.

As outspoken against homosexuality as Beiber is, he sure is a soft, gentle little twink. Methinks he has secrets which would make him a much happier young man to release from his guarded heart. be free, little rainbow, be free! One day, he will learn to smile and love the way he always dreams it to be.

Good news everyone! My daughters are currently in mourning because one member of One Direction just ran off and abandoned the band tour to be with Taylor Swift. There is hope for humanity.

BTW, here's a tidbit of info for you on Justin Bieber: He has a gay uncle whom he's apparently fairly close to. The guy is pretty cool and attributes Bieber's railing against homosexuality as a byproduct of being thrust into the public eye at a tender age and says he thinks he'll grow out of it. How do I know this? Let's just say I know people :)
