View Full Version : Antenna in the air!
I got my W9INN antenna up higher today and just worked I2VRN near Milan, Italy on 40.
Roberto gave me a 5/9 plus 5! Only running 100 watts here, for now. I also heard mucho traffic on 160.
I never worked Euros on 40 in California except at contest stations and I never heard much on 160.
I think I'm going to like Illinois.

Awesome!! Congrats. I'm really envious right now, I admit. I need to get life settled back down and get myself back on the air. It might be years though, who knows.
Excellent, Janet. You busy this weekend? Pick a frequency...maybe post something in the Sked forum?

It could be days or hours, too. You did fix that Astron supply, right? If not: I still have the parts for you to do so. And a road trip could see me, Nicki and Corey doing some wire stringing at your place...
Just had a long qso with N8YX. Very fun! And I got jammed by a Euro!
Unbelievable.
Yo, Carlo. Got antenna for 40 or 75? Operator standing by, Il Papa.
Anyone else on the air now?

Might have to fire up the rig now that you're almost a local.

on it, fireman. Let me know if you're on the air.
BTW, I'll give you 5 bucks for your FF plate. Oh, that's right. I'm not a slimy collector jerk. (Trust me, collectors of anything are vultures). I love the photo. When I set up a website, I'd like to use it if that's ok with you.

Well, its about freakin' time. What bands can you work? I can work 160M and up (with 1:1 tuned SWRs to boot). Get used to hearing Europe now. With 85W, I worked Australia (RTTY).
Are you equipped for RTTY? PSK?

I'm good all over the place. I'm resonant on 40/75 and 160 and can tune on the rest.
Give me a freq, and I'm there.

Well, I am still out for dinner, maybe about an hour from now.

In the mean time, you can test Carl's PSK ability on 40M! See if he can put out...

Find a clear frequency, and maybe we can get an Islander QSO going.

Gotta be in the general band.
How about 7.245? I got the TR-7 tuned up and ready to go.

Sounds good to me, and we are going to have to encourage you to Extra. I broke down the Extra into 8 or 10 sections, studied each section per week, did all the questions on that section, looked what went wrong, and retook the test questions. This method cleared what I new solidly, and only looked at the weak areas. In ten weeks, you should be Extra - less restrictions, more opportunities.

I 'volunteered' Carl and Janet as coordinators, see Sched Forum...
I need to stop at the store on my way home...

I started working on it just before I got my "promotion" but that job pretty much used up all my free time. Working 70+ hour weeks, I barely had time to sleep and eat, let alone study for the Extra test. Now that I have stepped aside into a position with a more reasonable schedule, I might actually have time to complete my studies. The guy I replaced is returning to take back the reins and he's a ham (KJ6URW). I helped him get his Technician ticket and we've already set up a mutual challenge: He's going to sit for the General exam and I'm going to go for my Extra at the testing session in February.
7245 is occupied.
Yeah, it is now. Pick another freq

Just BSO in and out. Hearing the same italian broadcast on top of us.
I could hear Janet clearly but she couldn't hear me. Wasn't showing any power out on my TR-7 and no ALC activity, I think there might be a problem with the mic, so I switched over to the IC-736. By the time I got the coax moved around, Janet was gone.

Great. Maybe we can operate some 40 meter AM one afternoon or some 75 or 160 meter AM one evening. Or, if you prefer to use SSB we can cross mode or maybe I'll get on SSB or CW. I used to get a pretty good sig into Illinois. Right now my antenna is way too low to be effective on any band. I am going to try the slingshot maneuver which should get me up to at least 40-60 feet at the apex.
