Seriously something that will work from 10 to 160 and about 500 watts would work.

This one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Palomar-2-Ham-Radio-Amplifier-/130815417498?pt=US_Ham_Radio_Amplifiers&hash=item1e7534dc9a) should be just about your speed. Don't hurt yourself with it.

For 80-10, (and working on WARC bands), at that power out, the best is an old SB-200 Linnyure.
I got one for $125, put in a Soft Start and a Soft Key (don't even THINK of hooking one up to a new type radio WITHOUT the soft key!!!) and it worked great! Mine was cheap, but normally they are about $300 or so. Uses 572Bs. For more kickass, Score a SB-220. That pair of 3-500Zs will open closed bands and break through pileups like unbelievably! But U really need to run it on 220VAC. I squeak my 200 through on 110.

If U need 160 that badly, then the Drake L7 is the LINNYURE to get!

My SB-221 has a mod to do 160, it's not hard to do.

I have the Heathkit SB-1000, new 3-500ZG tube, 160-10 including WARC bands, just fine working on 230 volts here 1KW out on the low bands 10-12 700-800 out, more then enough for me.
Mostly running 500 watts here, or 200 directly from the FT 2000 D.

It's bodacious. If you're gonna troll with slang, at least spell it right.

Nothing bodacious about 500W. I would imagine that big power is nice to have if you need it. I'm one who believes that it is rarely needed. I rarely run more than 50W, but will turn it up to 100W when 50W won't get the job done. This is with less than an optimum antenna. I regularly do what Pat says is impossible, break pileups with 100W.

I am aware that my low power operating style relies on the other guys patience and willingness to work a station who might be a little weak.
