As Tuesday began in Chicago, the city entered its 282nd consecutive day without "measurable" -- a tenth of an inch or more -- snowfall for the first time since 1994.

Heading into the day, weather forecasters had predicted a good chance of snow arriving Monday in the Windy City, but only a few scattered snowflakes were spotted in the air and the precipitation was not measurable. Worse yet (if you're a fan of the white fluffy stuff), CBS Chicago reports no chance of snow in the area until next week.

That forecast means that Chicago could soon break an even oldest record: The latest date that the city has ever seen its first measurable snowfall of the season is Dec. 16, 1965, according to the Chicago Tribune.

What does this mean? Glow-ball war mongering?

Hey, I'm just happy to not have to shovel the stuff.

Tell me about it. '08 and '09 saw us doing a huge amount of shoveling - seems every other day would bring 6+" of new snow on the driveway and walks.

It's been 45 years since the last measurable amount of snow fell on the Islets of Langerhans.

I think it was like the 1st of December, 2006, we had a massive amount of snow. Shoveled for a few hours to get out of the drive.

We don't get much snow. The last snowfall was in 1997. The snowfall before that was in 1881.

We've only had a half dozen nights so far that were even below freezing, and we're still in extreme drought conditions for most of the state.

Well, if we get yet another mild winter followed by a very hot dry summer then we may once again qualify for another hottest year on record. And who knows, maybe we'll get a few more hurricanes up here in the northeast this coming year. Maybe even a category 3 or 4 instead of just a category 1. Warmer air + warmer water = more water vapor => greater potential for bad coastal storms.
