In 14 days (Give or take), I'll be trying my first attempt at hard cider :)

Now, it's time to just sit and wait it out. I can't wait to give this a try. My wife is kind of in wonder,"I can't believe we're making alcohol here in the house." My kids thinks it's cool. The eldest said,"It's biology and chemistry, all in one!"

Debating on whether or not I should go and get another bucket to start another batch :)

Hey now.

I think Eddie got into your hard cider prematurely.

My grandfather makes wine and brandy at home. It is interesting.

Now, as for hard cider, it is a very common thing here and can be had so cheaply that making it yourself is not needed.

That being said, hope it turns out well and you enjoy it.

I tried to make hard cider when I was in grade school, and discovered how to make something beyond vinegar. Man, was that stuff was some nasty, awful, shit.

I worked with a young lady one time whose married name was Sherry Richwine. One of those names that really sticks with you. She never spoke of making alcohol at home though.

Not likely, he's poisonous. Rose Budd was in Citizen Kane.

I'm sure I'd be able to buy it, just haven't looked hard enough. But, it is pretty fun to make so far.

Vinegar, is another thing I'm kind of half-hoping I get out of one batch. People pay good money for cider vinegar :)

I started another batch of cider this evening, this time from apple juice, instead of cider. Not too confident in the result, but it's going to be an interesting experiment. 2 pounds of brown sugar, 1 gallon of juice, and Montrachet yeast this time. Should top out at 10% ABV, but I am slow-fermenting this time (Montrachet is notorious for "Rhino Farts").

Also, brewed a batch of Cranberry Hard Cider: Cranberry juice, instead of apple. It's foaming like hell right now.

Why the different types of yeast?

Why the different types of yeast?

Learning lessons?

For this round, I asked the proprietor what she suggests for a hard cider. First round, I was winging it. Also, the montrachet tops at a lower ABV, leaving a sweeter cider, compared to the champagne which would eat all the sugar up to 19% ABV (A weaker brew).

Cool deal. We're starting a batch of mead here.
