Years of planning now down the drain. Seems that Sandy Island is no more. Supposedly the size of Manhattan, it was found to never exist when a crew of fuds went to look for it. Or is that unfound? So confusing...

I just wonder what sort of cartographic moron 'discovered' it in the first place?
Supposedly, it was once not at all uncommon for maps to have "islands" on them that didn't exist. It was a cartographer's way of marking a map as theirs... so if someone else copied it, they'd know.
But who's to say you can't run a DXpedition from there? Saying you're one place and operating from another... that never stopped Romeo or Don Miller before...

Could you possibly talk someone into building a giant floating island. Somewhere where the water is very shallow for minimum wave action.

Maybe it was a removable island. Like the Candid camera stunt in the 1950's when they had a small removable building. They would send a sucker over there and then tell the sucker to come back in an half hour or so. As soon as the sucker leaves the Candid Camera crew disassembles the building and hides it. The sucker comes back and is scratching his head as all there is is a vacant lot.
Why not have one from this island?
Why not have one from this island?
Because the MMSN, the HWN or the SSTV crew would claimed they're being quarmed as a result of the pileup.
Besides, who would want to talk to vermin anyway? :chin:
