Hostess Brands has decided to call it a day.

But not really...

It is quite likely that Bimbo Bakeries will buy up at least the Twinkies brand name.

Gov. Christie of New Jersey refused to answer questions regarding the end of Twinkies as we know them...

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie refused to answer a question about Twinkies after Hostess Brands Inc. -- maker of the snack -- announced Friday it was going out of business (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/16/hostess-brands-liquidation_n_2143284.html).

In a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJXyipuHlao) posted to the governor's YouTube page, Christie refuses to give his opinion on Twinkies, joking he's "on Saturday Night Live enough."
"This is a set-up, man," Christie said. "It's bad that I even said the word 'Twinkie' from behind this microphone."

No Comment from Gov. Christie. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/16/chris-christie-twinkies_n_2146617.html)

Me too, the best bread for making dough balls as bait for carp and catfish was Wonder. Don't need to moisten, it rolled up into stiff balls that didn't soften in water and fall off the hook.

On the down side it's the worst for sammiches, besides being unable to spread anything on it the stuff stuck to the roof of my mouth like a church wafer and was as difficult to remove. Twinkies and related snacks are worse, the bread is oily and the white goo in the middle has the consistency and taste of axle grease. Anything with chocolate "icing" on it has another interesting characteristic, it comes off easily and is hard as a dinner plate. It doesn't fly right either, kind of like a lead Frisbee and if you happen to hit anybody with it you'll do some serious damage. If it didn't fracture so easily it would be fine for skeet shooting.

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/11/16/hostess-bankrupt-vulture-capitalists-picked-corpse-clean-video/

This morning, Hostess Brands, the maker of such staples as Wonder Bread and Twinkies, announced that they would be liquidating their operations, laying off all of their workers, and going out of business. The issues at Hostess have been decades in the making, a failure to innovate, to improve manufacturing methodology, and a regular problem of conflict between management and workers.

In 2004, the company entered bankruptcy with approximately $450 million in debt. It emerged after investment from Ripplewood Holdings. Today, it now stands at just shy of $1 billion in debt, despite additional investment by two more firms, Silver Point and Monarch. How did this happen?

These firms borrowed money to invest, which then they transferred that debt to the firm, simple. In effect, there never was any investment, only more debt added.
To emerge from bankruptcy, the companies unions agreed to large concessions which these vulture capitalists demanded, cutting thousands of jobs, transferring benefits or cutting benefits entirely. The companies also agreed to modernize the factories, which were running at a loss due to the age of the equipment, some of which dated to the 1930s. The investments from Silver Point and Monarch were to go towards this modernization. Instead the company found itself saddled with even more debt. To add to the company’s woes, the holding companies stopped supporting the retirement fund, raiding it for easy cash to extract from the firm. The current estimates put the liabilities of this fund at over $2 billion currently.

In order to “save” the firm, the operators of the company turned to the unions, which had already surrendered huge concessions just a few years back to turn the company around, and demanded an across the board slash, an additional 31%, along with eliminating the retirement and benefits entirely. It was a bridge too far. The union went on strike, and now the company has declared it will be liquidated.

Of course the right-wing media is quick to blame the unions, but in the end the union members would have lost more if they had capitulated to the vulture capitalists demands. By this move, they can hope to salvage the retirement plan, while if they’d given in they would have lost it all. $2 billion is a lot of money to just “give away” in negotiations. Of course the unions were expected to surrender despite the fact that the management company was asking the bankruptcy court to give their outgoing CEO up to $5.5 million. All of this was in addition to the 80% raises the executives were being treated to.

Then there were company payments to the Teamsters Union for managing the retirement funds, insurance, etc, agreed upon in the earlier bankruptcy proceedings. The company failed to pay for those either, adding an additional $100 million to the pile of bad debt the firm has all to extract as much wealth out of the firm as possible. This cost will, if not resolved during the liquidation, be spread to other companies the Teamsters operates with, as part of the contracts. The Hostess liquidation now will impact not only their direct employees, but hundreds of other firms.

Wow, I was just looking at Bimbo's website and was shocked to see how many brands they now own. There is a Bimbo warehouse/distribution center about a mile from me. I ride past it every time I go down the new bike path. Never really thought much about it. They now own Stroehmann. I worked for Stroehmann for a very short time in the late 80's just before I landed my first job in engineering. I was doing radio at night at an AM station on the weekends and an FM on weekdays. I worked at the bakery during the day, but that lasted only a few weeks before I just about dropped of exhaustion and it was shortly after that, that I was hired on as an engineer. The place I worked became a Dunkin' Donuts distribution center for a while, now I think it's an auto parts store. Funny how things change. I quite frankly, won't miss Hostess. I very rarely ate such things. I can probably count on my fingers how many times in my lifetime I ate a Hostess product. That shit is just too sickly sweet and full of preservatives. I really don't understand how anyone can eat that stuff with any regularity.

Some of the more negative aspects of the 70's. I never could stand the smell of patchouli or sandalwood. They have this perfume oil called "opium" which I always liked. There was an incence made from it that the Islamic vendors in NYC used to sell. I used to burn that occaisionaly. Otherwise I woul;d burn pure Ethiopian Frankincence resin. Boones Farm...yuck.

He would have to like to snuggle with me, and watch indie movies on netflix, and hulu +. This is where I lose most of them, He would have to accept my neurotic family as his own (my ex's family was weirder than mine). Most important: He would have to accept the fact that I am a grandfather to 2 grandkids. This is where I have lost all but 2 men. I like to watch the Buckeyes on Saturday, and the Bengals on Sunday as well. On edit: my 600 watt amp/speaker combo for my bass guitars can be very loud for the one room setting they are in.
