Could it be, at last, the end of Twinkies as we know them?

Never fear. The Twinkie has a half-life of approximately 1200 years and there are many already on the shelves. You'll be long gone before the supply runs out.

My heart bleeds. The company was doomed to fail. The top executives were greedy bastards (surprise surprise) and the workers striking were told that a strike would most likely spell the end of the company, as it was already in bankruptcy. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304072004577323993512506050.html

Last July, the court documents said, the compensation committee of Hostess's board approved an increase in then-chief executive Brian Driscoll's salary from to $2.55 million from around $750,000. The company had hired restructuring lawyers in March 2011, the creditors said, and filed for bankruptcy protection on Jan. 11.

Besides Mr. Driscoll, "other executives' salaries were increased by from 35% to 80%," the creditors said. The documents said that Mr. Driscoll subsequently renounced a portion of the increase while "other executives did not appear to have done so." Besides Mr. Driscoll, two other executives who saw their salaries increase have also left the company, according to the spokesman.

Unfortunately, the asshole greedy executives will walk away or already have walked away with plenty of money and opportunities in their pockets. The average worker.... not so much. I feel bad for them but I don't. They could still have jobs, now they're completely unemployed. Not sure how I feel about it.

Nah. Twinkies will outlast the Universe. Though we won't be around to see it. They just won't be Hostess Twinkies.

When I was a kid there were two things I really liked. Hostess Twinkies and Hostess cupcakes with the Orange icing and whipped cream inside. In those days the icing was soft, rich in flavour and, often it stuck to the cellophane so you would have to peel it off and put it back on the cupcake. They were delicious. Then over the years they went down hill. The icing became more like a hard crust with no particular flavour and the cream inside was rubberized. Same happened with Twinkies minus the icing.

I also used to like Drakes Yankee Doodles and Drakes fruit pies. Last I had them the Yankee Doodles were still pretty good and the fruit pies weren't too bad.

In this world the name may go on but all too often the quality goes down as the bean counters demand cheaper and cheaper productions. Over the years lots of great products turned to shit.

This is why we are switching to as close to organic everything as we can.
