Last I saw, Warren was saying he was evacuating just ahead of Sandy. Nothing since. Anybody hear him on the air or see him elsewhere on the Internet?

No, but he's the only one who said he was evacuating.
I figure he is OK, but very busy. :dunno:

If I am not mistaken he lives near the Jersey Coast among the hardest hit in this storm. My guess is he's probably ok but has a lot more things to keep him busy.

That's 4 blocks from the ocean. I'm guessing he's got bigger fish to fry, than being here.

The aerial photos of his neighborhood do not look good.

I didn't realize that Warren lived so far down the coast. I was thinking more like west of Somerset. Pt. Pleasant Bch. not a good place to be right now. Hope that he's doing alright. They got slammed down there.

Hee ah is! Miraculously all we got was a flooded basement and the landlord had the foresight to arrange for a new furnace before the storm and it was replaced immediately after. The net result was the house became livable early on as soon as power was restored. I learned this later, for a time all I got was a message on his answering machine telling me nothing I didn't already know but eventually I got through once cell service was restored and learned we could return. Then came delays which revealed the truth politicians playing for the camera never tell, evacuation and shelter is well planned and went like a well oiled machine, then it all fell apart. Turned out there is no plan to return evacuees, we're stranded on our own. The Red Cross only handles shelters but they put me in contact with a representative from Social Services who took our names, address and the landlord's phone number. Trouble is the wheels of bureaucracy grind slowly but after chewing through miles of red tape they finally arranged for a van to take us home where another adventure begins.

Since we lost power refrigeration went with it so all we have left are non-perishables in short supply until supply lines are restored. The Red Cross has been coming around with hot meals (not lobster and steak, shelter food somewhat edible) but now comes round 2, the nor'easter. I doubt they'll come around in that mess and I'm reasonably sure we'll lose power again because wires are still down and circuited around, a quick fix, the grid is held together with spit and a prayer. Likely I'll be off line again so think of me as an Eskimo in the dark listening to a scanner running off a 7.5AH gel battery, bored silly but not quite insane... yet.

Those aerial photos and news shots you saw are deceptive, here the boardwalk and a couple of blocks in were devastated but being 4 blocks in all we got was flooding, more severe a block closer. The barrier islands were nearly wiped off the map when the ocean met the bay and swept everything not firmly anchored with it. Not far south in Manteloking we have a new inlet and the bridge leads right into it, not to it, INTO it. A few landmarks remain like Convention Hall in Asbury Park and possibly the Steel Pier in Atlantic City but the shore from Keansburg south to Cape May is gone, simply gone and so many have no place to return to.

Well look at the bright side, Jersey Shore ran its last season much to the dismay of Snookie fans. The Benny Go Home crowd finally got their wish, the squids won't be back for years. Farther south the Shoobies have no Long Beach Island to invade but Old Barney (Barnegat Light) still stands. There won't be gamblers in Atlantic City either as Donald Trump and his friends weep while the Indians celebrate, Mohegan Sun casinos in Uncasville, CT and Pocono Downs, PA will be raking it in. (You took America, now we take your money.) Finally some peace and quiet? Not with all the construction equipment around, look out America, we'll be back! Maybe by then I'll be in Pennsylvania, houses are cheap in Centralia. (;->)

Glad to see that you made it Warren.

Are you saying that most of Atlantic City is gone?

That bridge could be used as a boat ramp. Sorry to hear that the barrier islands are gone and that so many are now homeless. Things are similar in NYC and the XYL can not reach her family even now. We did reach some of her friends in Brooklyn though.

Yup, I've known Sue for years and she's one who got me interested in Amateur Radio. She's OK but although she hasn't mentioned it she probably has her hands full about now, I'll pop off an e-mail and ask her to drop in and say hi.

How are you making out with the nor'easter ? Here we got a lot of snow and ice but not too much wind thus fare. Winds tonight are nowhere near the kind of winds we experiences in the week past.

Weird—yesterday it was sunny and 80°F with more of the same predicted until Saturday. This morning, I woke up to 55°F and rain. Weather is pretty predictable here, the NWS doesn't usually miss the mark by such a large margin.

Hi everyone, I'm here, heard from Warren that peeps are looking for me. All is ok from hurricane minus shingles ripped out of the roof and snowstorm wasn't bad. Warren was right, I do have my hands full but with full time job and coming home and taking care of house, shopping, laundry and cooking and everything else 7 days a week for 2 parents not well, 1 is terminal so I really have been emotionally overwhelmed with trying to do it all myself because other family members can't be bothered. And yes, I have known Warren from the outside world, met him through a childhood sweetheart I was serious with back in the 90's who was a ham and got me into it and Warren got into it from the both of us, and the 3 of us did a lot of pal'ing around together and wreaked havoc everywhere we went but we will never tell what really happened, we are taking that secret to our graves:whistle::whistle:

I got through the non-easter rather well, a little breezy and as soon as it started snowing dead calm. Lights flickered often, probably due to heavy laden tree branches arcing and sparking wires.

"What happens in the hot tub, stays in the hot tub."
EEK! Now I'm going to have nightmares!

"Some of us witnessed that really cool multi color wig. Briefly."
I still have a few knots on my head.

I took plenty of heat for that picture, but I'll survive IF she's busy enough not to come back again and read the rest of it. Then I'll have to change my tin foil hat for a steel helmet.

You got a problem with that?

...

On a more serious note, the news from Long Beach Island is disconcerting. I think we spent a week or more in Beach Haven every year as far back as I can remember, until we had to move out of state when I was 16. I'm really hoping that the area will recover.

And I am glad to hear that you guys are OK.

Uh oh... SHE BITES!

"On a more serious note, the news from Long Beach Island is disconcerting."

But as expected when the wind driven ocean meets the bay during a spring tide, all but the lighthouse is wiped out. Same up on this island, everything south of Bay Head was destroyed, the coast from Keansburg to Cape May was hard hit. A few landmarks remain, I thought Lucy the Margate elephant gift shop would float out to sea but only a little water in her hind legs. Surprisingly Seaside Heights PD is on the air and they sure have their hands full coordinating cleanup activities. No crime but what is there to crime in? LBI is out of scanner range so I don't know what's going on there but it's a safe bet it's the same as Seaside.
