Yeah... dentistry WITHOUT anesthesia is MUCH more appealing than where I spent my afternoon.... the car dealership!!!

Looking to get rid of the now-out-of-warranty 2007 Dodge pickup. What's in the radar screen: 2012 Nissan Pathfinder.

Will know the bank's answer tomorrow. If the deal goes per MY terms, my stepfather will pick it up for me, after I fax back the signed contract, unless they call me before I have to leave Phoenix tomorrow, in which case I can drive back to Tucson to do that myself..

The Pathfinder will do everything I need to do (pull travel trailer and utility trailer) (not at the same time), and have air-conditioned comfort for the 4-legged harmonics. And, it has a roof rack...guess what's going up there?? :-D

BTW.... window sticker was at $32000.... got them down to $28500... after rebate it will be around $24500. Yes, I can be a pain in the ass when it comes to buying vehicles.

Got room for HF & V/UHF mobile in that?

Why? Don't you have a "T" endorsement on your CDL?

Way to go Kev. That PF should be able to pull both trailers AND the boat you don't have yet, all at the same time.

Buying a car is one of the worst consumer experiences we participate in.

Depends on where you go. I bought my last at Automotive Avenues; pretty cool experience. They photocopy your DL and let you take test drives solo (take your time). Decide you want it? Grab a closer (no pressure) and you're done in 30-45 minutes. Dealers really do suck, though. I'm done with them, but doubt I'll ever buy a new car.

Not even if Yugo comes out with a new model?

Especially if Yugo comes out with a new model.

Hey, a Yugo was a Fiat made in a state-operated manufacturing plant. What could possibly go wrong?

Well...things did not go to my stipulations (the USUAL excuses that a bank uses when they want to torpedo a
acceptable deal....Oh well...more when I stop for the night.

Yeah....I'm a perturbed bear ATM....

OK...now that I'm on a computer....

Dealer #1: Looked at a new Dodge pickup. looked at several...found the damn near PERFECT one. Did the paperwork...they appraised my old pickup. That's when things started going downhill quickly. The guy in the "glass house" told the salesman that I had to find a truck UNDER $21K. Needless to say, there wasn't shit there I'd even entertain at that price level. Salesman takes me to look at current year used...went to get the key, then called me back up to near where my pickup was parked. Handed me the keys to it.
(Basically, the sales manager told him to get me off the lot. Chrysler WILL be getting a complaint letter about this.)

Dealer #2: This was the Nissan Pathfinder deal. Drove 3 pickups, then the Pathfinder. Loved it. Went to work on the price... got them down to $28K from $32K. So.... figuring $24K after rebate. Not bad. Then finance manager came to talk to me. Told me that truck drivers fall under what the banks consider a "high risk loan". So basically, he would have to talk to them in the morning. Several banks actually called me asking if I was a W-2 employee or a 1099 (Independent Contractor). Then the phone call when I got near Flagstaff. They basically would only offer me terms that they knew I would refuse. Ugh.

So....next time off, try other dealers.

Or should I go to the dentist and have dental work done WITHOUT Lidocaine????

Do you belong to a credit union? They often are more flexible on making loans available than a bank.

Or, failiing that, talk with your bank first. Since you have a fairly good idea of what you can afford, what it will cost, etc... see if you can have the loan lined up first, then go to the dealership. Of course, you won't be working with THEIR pet bankers, and they won't get THEIR cut of the loan, but that's not your problem.

Maybe you can find a dentist who offers one with complete dental implants or a bank that will let you exchange the normal RPG for opening a credit default swap account.

Brother Ron... yes I do. But if I go with the credit union, I lose the $4000 rebate that requires that NMAC carry the paper.
