Just looking for a Mic for my Kenwood ts-570. The base of my old MC60 has crapped out and I need a replacement.
I am also open to suggestions on what kind of mic to look for. I do need to try and keep it on the cheap side being a cheap ass ham ....

4 pin or 8?

That should be an 8 pin.

Yes, 8 pin. Are you looking for a stock type hand mike, desk mic or are you willing to experiment.
I can probably help you out. I have a TS-570S and here lately I have been experimenting with some cheap assed mics and have been getting great results.

I see now that the title says DESK MIC..... somehow I missed that.

Yes, looking for a desk mic or parts for the base of the mc-60... It is and 8 pin on the 570dg.

Uh, that would be an 8 pin.
An 8 pin that utilizes that hard to reach with a soldering iron center pin.
I believe a 1000 ohm studio mic can be tailored through the menu system to have high and low cut offs as well as mid-range peaking.

Let me see what I can come up with. I happen to have a generic vocal mic I'll wire up and see how well it works. I don't have much in it. Do you have a foot or hand PTT switch?

Yes, to all of the above. The center pin is a ground and is not that hard to reach. Menu #14 is TX EQ

The only mic switch I had was the one on the mc60. The microphone part itself works fine but it is a pain to work the small slide switch on the back of it. The base has some issues where the audio is not making it through all the time or comes out with distortion. neither one is good.

I just realized that I might have a modular 8 pin connector wired for Kenwood with 2 jacks on it. One for a PTT and one for a mic, both 1/8" ... You could experiment with microphones and switches of your choice and at your leisure.
Let me hunt it down and get back to you. I do recall seeing it in my line of sight recently.

The radio uses the 8 pin round connector, not the modular. Thanks for the help though Charles. I could use a good dark beer here...

I missed that modular part. You do know you can make any cable you need and you can also change the end on Charles' plug.

That is the W2ENY adapter (I got the idea from the guy and started building my own) and costs about $25 new. I don't think it will work very well with a D-104 head. It will work wonderfully well with a cheap computer mic or headset. Set your "TX EQ" to "BB" and run your mic gain around "20". "15" for a head set. You can wire up a PTT Switch or use the send button (what I prefer) on your TS-570.

Do you find your TS-570 to be as awesome as I do? I love this rig. Is yours the "D" or "S" and is it (g)? Mine is the TS-570S(g).

I find the 570 to be a great radio. Mine is a D(g) so no six meters in it. Worked great when I used it mobile and it did a great job on the Mars bands. I will probably try one of the computer mics I have laying around. I could use the HRD computer to key the radio but I do like the old desk mic. As for the d-104 head, I was kidding about it. It is lost in a box in the garage somewhere...

Put the mic on a boom and make/find a foot switch for the PTT.

A great idea! You can even make your own boom and shock mount.... see YouTube.
