It would be interesting to know why the inmate hit his lawyer. Was it because the lawyer told him he would get a lesser sentence after pleading guilty, and the inmate got fifteen years instead?

PDs will sell you out in a heartbeat. In SC, attorneys have to take turns doing it.

That's because like anything else you get what you pay for. On rare occasions a lawyer will take on a high profile case pro bono and sometimes Sonny Bono, publicity brings future income worth far more than a single fee. That's how Johnny Cochran got his start defending Civil Rights activists which led to the most famous case in US history since the State of Tennessee vs. John Thomas Scopes trial.
