Warm up those terminals, kids.

If the solar flux manages to keep at current levels, 10m should be interesting. I worked Uzbekistan this morning on 10m RTTY. Had to use the amp (I hate doing that), but there was plenty of DX this morning all over the RTTY section of 10m.

PSK is at 28.120. While the RTTY contest might get that high, I doubt there will be that much butt hurt. ;)

80, 40 and 20 will be another matter entirely. I can almost hear the howls of derision from where I sit...

Probably going to be FORCED to do LOTW though. Most RTTY types use electronic logs. I still log on paper and barely can figure out the MMTY program. Just enough to make it work.

I've got a bunch of other obligations this weekend, but this is one I like so I'll get on and pass out points as I can. Might give the 1500 a run on RTTY just to see how it does.

Well, 10m has been interesting this morning.

Started out at 28.066 and finished at 28.150 before I finally switched to 15m. The band was hopping.

Went down to the shack for a bit this morning, got things set up, then decided that I couldn't be bothered. Probably later this afternoon I'll go jump in for a bit. Don't really want to work too many. I'm coming up on logged QSO #10,000 and I was kind of hoping a friend would be out of the hospital and home so he and I could do that particular QSO.

Between the Texas QSO party cw ops and the RTTY contesters, the lower portions of the bands are very lively this morning.

Yes, but come 00:01z Monday (8:01PM EDT Sunday), you'll be able to hear a pin drop. ;)

I KICKED ASS on 15M into EU this morning, and even got over Midwest and East Coast stations!!! Wonderful fun!!! Not too far away from a DXCC!

ZA/OK6 ALBANIA!!! 500W and a 3 element beam! OVER THE EAST COAST!!!

I will look to the Pacific when I get home from work.

Talk about a crutch.....

Do it with 100 watts and I might be impressed. :neener:

Well, it's been a fun time on 10 & 15 today. Quite a number of surprises today. A VU2, a couple of A6s, 2 stations from Guam, 1 or 2 Greek stations, and quite a number of JAs. Only one 1 BY, however. Had to really work for that one. I "cheated" a bit by using the 15m beam. I feel so dirty..... ;)

Last night 40m was wall to wall. Picked up a few stations on 80m last night as well. It's a little tough to make 80m QSOs with 100 watts with the band still a bit noisy. CQWW SSB later this year should prove to be easier.

I had to give up about 45 minutes ago. The back and shoulders were starting to ache. I was still copying a KH2 and a number of JAs fairly well on 15m, even on the wire antennas.

I might go back and check on 40 & 80 later tonight.

Finally got on and worked a few. VK on 10M with a wire antenna and 5W...not too bad.

15 was open to EU when I got up early this morning, and I worked more pages of wonderful DX before going to Church. Not too many countries I missed in EU. Didn't hear any Africa, and all I heard to the West was JAs. NO VKs or ZLs either, for some reason. And only a couple of South America and Carribean. But EU was GREAT! Seems like 15 stays open to there all day, as it was still open late in the evening. Tried 10M, but only worked the Guan NH2T station KJ3N worked. just a few light JAs and still no South Pacific. Back to 15M! That seems to be the best band for the contest. This afternoon, I will be at the ALPINE DAYS PARADE with the LARC radio club, so thats about it for the contest. I wasn't trying to win it anyway, just pick up needed DXCC countries for my future RTTY DXCC.

Remember, KJ3N, U are in Delaware which ADDS 60dB to your signal. I am in California, which SUBTRACTS 60dB from my signal. So, I NEED my beam and Kilowatt just to break even with U!

You'd like to think so, but you're all wet.

When I'm calling in pile-ups, or during contests, the other station only knows that I'm a 3-lander. I still have to get through the crowd, just like everyone else. They have no clue I'm from Delaware until I tell them. That comes AFTER they come back to my initial call.

Nice try.

OK, I'm burnt out. Time to bag it for the weekend.

According to the built-in logger of MixW:

179 Qs, 148 unique callsigns, 136 WPX, 80 DXCC entities. 20.5/48 hours spent operating.

A die-hard contester I will never be. I have no idea how some of those guys can do it.

I've come full circle on the contest thing, used to hate the contest weekends but now I look forward to them. I'm not a serious contester by any means but have a blast spending a few hours looking for a few new ones to add to the log. Just running 100 watts into a rotatable dipole here, so pretty modest setup, but managed to get a couple JA's in the log on 15 meters and a few other new countries.

Russian PSK63 DX contest coming up this weekend, I'll probably work that one too.

Hey, I made my first post! :cool2:

Yep, yer on the road to Perdition now. But, it's at least a very pleasant road with lots of scantily-clad Island girls/boys (depending on your preference in such matters) and all the umbrella drinks you can down. Put the first one on my tab, it's the Island tradition.

A definite tradition of his eminence Pope Carlo I .....to throw out the first drink..... or the first drunk.... whichever comes first....

..... and a definite advantage in knowledge to refer to Jimmy Hoffa as being the Holy Ghost !!

I prefer the dark beers. Newcastle Brown is my favorite when I can get it up here. When I go stateside I like Yuengling Dark or Sam Adams. But, it's all good! Thanks for the welcome :)

Storm King looks and feels (some say, tastes) just like motor oil. Heavily used motor oil at that.

Good stuff. Two fresh cases are laying in wait on the shack floor.

Similar to Guinness? I like something with a little flavor, don't like pale, wimpy beer. I'll check it out next time I head south, sounds like it might be right up my alley

This stuff is much more flavorful than Guinness, at least IMO. Check Victory Brewing's website out for details.

Also playing around with home brewing...a recipe known as Diablo de Negro (14-17% ABV) intrigues the heck out of me.

CQ WW RTTY SUCKED here.
Hurt my knee around 10:30 Friday night. Continued with contest afterwards,
but when I shut down for the night, and tried to stand up,
KNEE WOULD NOT WORK...Nothing !

Hobbled to bed, ended up there all weekend.

Made a whopping 166 Q's...maybe next year.
