It's really a cover for Area 52.

actually, they BOTH exist.....been to both of them back in the 1980's when I worked for EG&G.....

Groom Lake is known on DOE maps as Area 51...

Tonopah Test Range is known as Area 52......

That was a joke... or more correctly, a movie reference to a joke (can you name the movie? and yes, it was a pretty bad one).

Yes, for anyone actually interested, there really is an Area 51 & 52. And other research & classified (and not so classified) sections of what was once known as part of the Nellis Air Force Gunnery & Bombing Range, or as the Nevada Test Site, the Nevada Test & Training Range, and/or the Nevada National Security Site... for example, Area 5, Area 11, Area 30...

That lowers the level of doubt. I think they probably did land.
