"Barely used" homebrew stuff on eBay scares me. Besides, couldn't you buy a pretty decent new Ameritron for that kinda coin? Or maybe a trunk load of SB-220's?

It's actually a little scary to look at the "Ham Radio Amplifier" listing. I'm surprised we don't have more reports of electrocutions amongst the 11 meter & freeband ops... some of those things would be better put to use at the state prisons to power the electric chairs...

Anyone else recognize it? If I'm not mistaken, this was once a Hallicrafters HT-41... the position of the switches, meters, lights, and the knob styles give it away. (That front panel & case are definitely Hallicrafters of that vintage)
Someone gutted it, changed the finals to 3-500's, moved the power supply outboard, and (as evidenced by the missing load control, but the hole's still there on the front panel) made it a one band amp.
I'd be tempted to get the poor thing just to use the shell and what few parts that could be salvaged to build a new amp. Like I need another project. (And it's going to cost more than $27 to ship, the original at least was HEAVY)

The 2 tubes inside the amplifier say Eimac 3-500Z ( worth $300.00 each)
That would be the pre-salvage value. They're probably worth less with rusted pins.

Looking at his negative feedback comments, the guy refuses to ship to his buyers if the auction didn't bring in enough money. Hasn't he ever heard of setting a reserve price?

A couple of notes...all that HB stuff in the air and he only has regional cards on the wall. Cool enough. I also notice...no HOA! Lucky bastard. Salt goes good with tomatoes, by the way. The fishing pole DP in the bed of the truck is interesting. CRT in the shack, along with a phonetics chart (behind an otherwise clean looking SB) so he doesnt forget how to say his call...adds to the 'flavor'. And if he hung on to the entire 70's organ he found, it would be worth more to a player than that SB...especially with the Leslies in it.
Otherwise, he seems right on the mark as a normal ham to me. :-D

Damn, prices went up. I paid 1200$ for my AL-572 a few years back.

Gotta say one thing about the Rat Shack King (no relation to Radio Shack) and that's he doesn't know or lies about antennas. First of all, the Shakespeare Big Stick isn't 20' nor is it a half wave on 10M, it's a half wave on 11M which makes it 18'. Then there's the Avanti Astro Plane, another CB antenna and look again, there's two CBs on the middle shelf with what appears to be one of those Dosey meters on top of them. The Timothy Leary antenna (more on that later) is neither 5/8 wave on 6 nor 1/4 wave on 10, actually a modified grounded vertical folded unipole with a capacitive hat on 11. He's right about one thing though, it should work fine on 6M because after a slight misadventure Jack WA2V (SK) had with one we called it a TVI O Plane. The short form is he replaced a ground plane with one, noticed no difference but one, TVI all over the neighborhood. As soon as the ground plane went up the TVI went away. I took a few measurements and found it's an excellent 3rd harmonic antenna.
There's plenty more of the usual CB BS in there so the question becomes would you buy a used horse from this man?
