Two Full Moons in a month. Or more correctly, two full moons in a season...

A blue moon will grace the night sky Friday night, giving skywatchers their last chance to observe this celestial phenomenon for nearly three years.

The moon will wax to its full phase at 9:58 a.m. EDT Friday, bringing August's full moon (http://www.space.com/16830-full-moon-calendar.html) count to two (the first one occurred Aug. 1). Two full moons won't rise in a single month again until July 2015.

See the blue moon tonight, then say goodbye until 2015. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/48860891/ns/technology_and_science-space/#.UEEpXaOeIj4)<<<LINK

It's PERFECT. Flags at half mast for Neil Armstrong today.

Wink at the moon for Neil. I've been doing it every night on my drive home.

Clear skies here tonight, a good night to take the telescope out!

The full moon doesn't lend itself to good viewing conditions. Actually, you see more detail on the moon during other phases, as the craters cast shadows, giving the illusion of depth. The full moon is also way too bright in most telescopes without a filter... and you can't see anything in the part of the sky that it's lighting up.

Depending on the quantity of beer consumed between now and dark thirty (and sky cover, acourse), I plan to have a camera down on the lake. Won't be going for detail on the moon, but there could be some cool reflections 'n' stuff. Full moon in the boonies, don't even need a flashlight. ;)

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold

RATS!

Ya know, I got all excited at the thought of seeing that blue moon thing. Phooey, was I ever disappointed—it looked white, just like it does every day.

There's always THIS eclipse on 11/28/2012 (last one before the world ends again in December). (http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/OH/OHfigures/OH2012-Fig06.pdf) According to the map, iIt will not be visible from my QTH.

Ah, Pink Floyd. There is no dark side of the moon really. As a matter of fact it's all dark. Now here's the question; when is this a true statement?

We did a night bicycle ride under it last evening. Save a couple families returning to the trailhead near our house, there was absolutely no one whatsoever on the trail. Highly unusual...

Not every furry is friendly.

Even a man who is pure in heart
and says his prayers by night,
may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms
and the Autumn moon is bright.
