From Craig's List San Diego, here's exactly the thing for those of you with antenna towers in excess of 200 feet in height:

Only $250 for the pair. Full listing here (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/for/3227629344.html).

Ha! Following an LED refit of about 15 towers a few years ago, I gave a bunch of those away for free.

That's probably how this seller got his. But I had no idea the things were so large.

3 feet. Two 720 watt lamps.

Interesting. They're pretty cool items, but not $250 worth of cool.

I donated one of these to this place a few years ago: http://www.rudyalicelighthouse.net/OntLts/ThirtyMi/ThirtyMi.htm

They have a museum display of various Fresnel lenses and the lamp I donated is used as an example of a type of Fresnel lens.

The tail light lenses on most big trucks (and some cars) are flat Fresnel lenses.

BTW, here's my own favorite light house (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigeon_Point_Lighthouse). Smoked a lot of pot at the foot of the tower back in the early Seventies.

The guy I interviewed with a few months back at a 2-way place had one in his office - an orange Rohn one. Looked like a big glass Gatorade cooler :-D

I remember somewhere in Manhattan there was on display a big glass cover from the beacon on top of the antennas on the Empire State Building.. It had been up there for many decades and was replaced and now there it stood, at ground level for all to see up close. It was amazing how much the glass was worn, dented and pitted... That thing stood up to many decades of blazing heat, frigid cold, icing, high winds, pelted by hail, sleet, snow, rain, lightning strikes, and whatever else might have bumped into it up there.

Oh any yeah, it is amazing how big some of that stuff is when you see it on the ground. Many years ago a street light fell down in my neighborhood and I was thinking of grabbing it and mounting it on my wall as a novelty. But when I got up close to it I realized no way was this thing going on any wall at home. The head part of the light containing the bulb, reflector, ballast, electronics, and cover when standing on end was almost up to my neck in height.. And no way would the boom fit in the room without being cut down to almost nothing. I decided to leave it and let the public works department have it.

I wish I could find the pics I have of some of the ones that came down off the towers I managed. Some of the lightning strike pits were pretty impressive.

Yeah, in 1945 a B-25 Mitchell hit the Empire.. But few people realize that in 1946 a US Army Beechcraft C-45 crashed into 40 Wall Street. 40 Wall at the time was one of the biggest in Manhattan (built in 1925) and was called the "Manhattan Building". I think its now called "The Trump Building". Both the Mitchell and the C-45 crashes were due to heavy fog/poor visibility.

Back then cM RADAR was in its infancy and I doubt even military aircraft had it. Things may have changed but even in the 80s no commercial aircraft had collision avoidance RADAR, only storm avoidance which I saw in the cockpit myself a few times. Marine RADAR is another story, especially larger vessels. Late one night a long time ago in a harbor far away I had the pleasure of making a trip in the wheelhouse of this beauty. Having clear weather we had perfect visibility to compare visual to RADAR and it was astounding, I could clearly see harbor traffic and the Manhattan skyline like I've never seen it before or since. I wish I had a picture, you have to see it to believe it.

And the relationship between numbers determines who can tell whom to get off who's lawn.

Looks like bamboo...not even big bambu...just crappy bamboo. The Pier 1 cheap decoration kind. They picked all the buds clean, gotta leave that one alone (besides, it looks like a male plant)

Crappy-looking plant.Well, of course. It's a prop. You don't think that the movie makers would use a REAL one?

...on the set in front of the cameras, not backstage...

Well, we're lucky in a way: We're renting. So, we're just having to extend our rent payments. Crap thing, is I took two weeks vacation for the move, and now we're just hung up on sellers who don't want to honor their contract. Thusly, I'm out 1 week minimum of vacation time, we've lost two truck rentals, had to downgrade the trucks each time, and the kids start school next week, and I have no idea where they'll do their homework.

Will a coating of Tag Away make the whole person disappear?
