AVG Rescue CD

I was at a friends house to troubleshoot a problem of loss of internet access. Typical Cable modem, wireless/wired router, and computer. First thing I do is whip out the iPod and connect to the wireless router, and pull up a web page. web page loaded - so the problem is in the computer. It is a windows 7 system, using Internet Explorer - I knew it was going to be difficult. First thing I do is check system messages, says antivirus protection is disabled. Tried to activate McAfee, it goes back to disabled. Did a system restore to the next last date, got the network connected, downloaded anti-malwarebytes software, and AVG. AVG stopped 1/3 way through. Crap.

Being Windows 7, it was so difficult to do simple things, or at least it was simple with XP, click on network Icon, select 'repair', and the network is fixed. Windows 7 makes this a nightmare. I hear Windows 8 is even worse.

What I really need is to boot off a CD ROM disk and run an antivirus from the boot disk. Came home, did a search on some of the keywords, and my first hit was AVG Rescue CD. It is what I am looking for. Thought I would share this with everyone here. Download the AVG Rescue CD as an ISO, rar, or zip file, burn as bootable CD, and boot from CD to rescue the computer.

Kaspersky Rescue Disk. Hands down the best thing since peanut butter. Slow as hell, but gets the job done on any computer. Plus it's Linux based... no windoze blues for yuse!

AVG Rescue CD is also Linux based.... I know that because after burning the CD, I left it in the drive, and booted into the CD this morning.

Another tool for my tool box.

And isn't it the least bit sad that the reality is none of these real time protections actually work? So you have to resort to a rescue CD that boots Linux to save your Windows using butts? :lol:

It's Microsoft's fault anyways. They are going down the tubes. I have friends who are now going to Apple now, because of the new crappy Windows 7 interfaces and continuing Microsoft problems. Windows 8 will expedite this migration.

problem is that they're not "real-time." also, the business model has built-in sabotage for people who buy their antivirus: when their subscription expires the protection is compromised, and most ordinary joes don't realize this.
