An 11-year-old Christian girl has been arrested after being accused of desecrating pages of the Koran.

She was detained for blasphemy after an angry mob demanded her arrest and threatened to burn down Christian homes outside of the capital, Islamabad, Pakistani media say.

The girl is known to have learning difficulties and could not properly answer police questions, officials say.

For many, religion is an excuse to experience anger and show the rest of the village that you are as pious as the next guy.
And they know this. It is allowed to continue because they keep giving others the power to enforce their doctrine.

Religion, to me, can be good for small communities and can be a focus to help sane, regular people get through hard patches in their lives...otherwise, it can easily be used as a weapon, an excuse or a tool of manipulation for ambitious people. Just my personal observation, religion is not neccessary. We all carry what we need inside, we're all just fine, we just need to convince ourselves of this, then we can learn to get along. Unfortunately, mankind is nowhere near that point.
