Inverntor of the 555 Chip Dead at 78

Hans Camenzind, inventor of the ubiquitous 555 timer chip, passed away on Wednesday. I have a whole tube full of his invention out in my shack. RIP, Hans.

Wow. I remember putting together a 555 based code oscillator to learn code when I couldn't find the Heathkit code oscillator I built. The 556 was also a great design.

The incredible amount of things you could build with it was amazing.

Then he also invented PLL which is one of the reasons transceivers and SWL radios are so accurate today as opposed to the drift we had to put up with in the 60s.
