Its out, now where is the 539?

Edit:

The only info I can find about a release date is this fall. October/November is what I would assume. As for the specs listed, from what I can find, they are quite vague.

I'm starting to save my pennies. I hope it works with my Argonaut V.

That does pike my interest a tad.

I dont see why it wouldnt. It says that it will work with a variety of low power transmitters.

Hmmm..........8 bills for a hundred watts. Why do I think a used 100w radio would be a better choice?

I suppose that would depend on the person. There is going to be a matching portable table top QRP rig coming out this fall. I suppose if you want the rig for both QRP portable and full 100W's at home it would be worth it. However, personally I like QRP (table top only) therefore I use two rigs. Dedicated QRP and 100W/QRO combo.

Another example would be for those that already have a QRP rig and do not wish to use another rig but do wish to have higher output.

I look at it this way, if there was not a large enough market for it, they would not release it.

Why it probably just won't be Amuurikan!

If that amp incorporates an auto-tuner it would be worth the money. Otherwise...not so much.

I'll note that an IC-765 goes for about that. Then you get a really GOOD receiver in the bargain.

Could get a green screen Jupiter as well. An Omni V/I(+), Paragon II...etc. Then again, for the cost of an FTDX9000 I can buy a car and yet people still buy them when there are much better radios for half the cost.

Again, all about preference.

True, but I can turn the drive down on my Omni 6 to about 5w.

Might have to throttle the V back though, I believe the max input is 20 Watts.

True but I like a dedicated QRP rig because it is like smoking, if I have a pack of smokes I will smoke, if I dont then I wont. IE if it has 100 Watts, I like wont run 5.

Bleh...330 am and I can not sleep. Its been a long time since I have had issues sleeping. This is where I miss having a shack because Id just get on the radio.

Yeah, listening to the OF nets on 80m puts me right to sleep too.

Correctamundo, Doug.

I would even pay $400 or $450 for an old Kenwood TS-930SAT, late serial number. I wish I still had my old one. Damn good receiver. I logged over 200 aircraft beacons (remember them?) with that radio all over the country.

Hmmm..........8 bills for a hundred watts. Why do I think a used 100w radio would be a better choice? There are many people who already own QRP or low power output radios who desire an amp like this. The amp is not for everyone, nor is intended to be.

It's a bit of a niche market, but there is a demand for it.

My name is Charlie Babbitt (C. B. for short) and I approve this device.

What's considered a late serial number on a TS-930SAT?

310XXXX range.

I had two of them. The first one (late serial number) I bought from a guy who had only had it for a few months in 1986. Absolutely great radio in all aspects. I sold it due to some personal stuff later on.

I later traded a Kenwood R-5000 for a 1982 vintage 930, and it was not a good radio. It hadn't been abused, I knew the guy well who had it, it just wasn't as "tight".

310XXXX range.

OK, just had to check. There's a TS-930 sitting in the To Do pile, but it starts with 212xxxx. I think it works, but it needs to have the PS mods done and I think there's an RCA jack in the back that has to be replaced.

One of these days....

The earlier 930's had a real problem with phase noise, the later ones were better..but only incrementally. In that price range I'd be looking for an IC-761.

Another good radio, and thanks for the clarification on the 930, Doug. My older 930 also had grounding issues, that I never did experience with any other rigs. I'd get "bit" once in a while.

Ten-Tec will not knowingly sell these amps to those folks.

Of course, there will always be those who will act as "middle men". We all know of them... they're better known as the purveyors of the infamous golden screwdriver(s).

I have a couple Signal Boards for those. If you need any specialty parts as used on said boards, drop me a PM and let me know what you're after.

I'll keep that in mind. It's way down on the list. There's a TS-850SAT in front of it that I want to get to before the 930.
