I caught this in 2010 and it's no fun. The mutated flu that was supposedly only found in Northern Europe? I had it and after over a dozen antibiotics, it took 2 months to get rid of. It basically shut down my respiratory system, causing pneumonia, COPD, asthma, a viral infection on top of the flu. The viral infection was incurable and I had to ride it out for over 3 months. It cost me my job and I will have the complications that it left behind for the rest of my life. Which is why I find the CDC's description of this flu as mild more than a little suspect.

A new type of swine flu (http://www.latimes.com/topic/health/diseases-illnesses/swine-flu-HEDAI0000067.topic) has infected at least 145 people, mostly children, since July 12, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (http://www.latimes.com/topic/health/diseases-illnesses/u.s.-centers-for-disease-control-prevention-ORGOV000011.topic). That's a significant jump from the 12 cases confirmed by the agency last week.
"We're seeing a big increase, and we think it's a real increase," said the CDC's Dr. Joseph Bresee in a Thursday update on the virus (http://www.latimes.com/topic/health/diseases-illnesses/viral-diseases-infections-HEDAI0000071.topic), which people have contracted after contact with pigs at county fairs.

I was planning to go to a "threshing bee" this weekend, but probably will opt to stay away from the farm properties.

Doesn't that about figure? I got rid of all my birds a few years ago and replaced them with a bunch of pigs. Damn

Catching swine flu from a pig is unlikely. People catch it from human contact, or... something that once was... human.
