It is being called the worst dive in Olympic History. Germany's Stephan Feck did a 3 and a quarter back flop into the Olympic Pool and managed a unanimous 0.0 from the judges. BUT the video has gone viral on the internet.

I think he merely had a George Bush moment.

In this wacky world we live in, wouldn't it be something if Feck wound up making big bucks doing product endorsements due to his new-found fame!

Sort of like the "agony of defeat" guy.Bet you don't know his name...

no, neither did I until I looked him up...

The agonized athlete was a Slovene ski jumper by the name of Vinko Bogataj. A respected jumper and a fierce competitor, Bogataj's fate took a turn for the worse at the World Ski Flying Championships in 1970. Midway through his third run, Bogataj felt he was going too fast and tried to slow down. Unfortunately, he lost his balance and tumbled spectacularly over the side of the ramp. Bogataj suffered only a concussion, though apparently he never again jumped with quite the same "abandon." Understandable, if you ask us.

An interesting side note: Bogataj lived behind the Iron Curtain. As a result, he had no idea how infamous his crash had become in the United States. So it was with great confusion that he accepted an invitation to attend ABC's "Wide World of Sports" anniversary show. Once there, he found himself hounded by fans (including Muhammad Ali) who wanted to shake hands with "the agony of defeat." We call that a minor victory.

Oh, I had to add this, from another link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinko_Bogataj

Every time I'm on ABC, I crash.—Vinko Bogataj, having suffered a minor car accident while on his way to be interviewed by ABC's Terry Gannon.

Even with his "Grundlichkeit", he should have waited. The cannonball, suicide, and jackknife competition isn't until next week.

Looking at the slo-mo, I think he had an engine failure on take-off.

I remember seeing the jump attempt itself (not the clip) on Wide World of Sports when I was a kid. I remember there being two jump mishaps that day. The other jumper actually got off cleanly, but fell hard at landing, and I think suffered a broken back. I remember the announcers saying that although the first, ugly mishap looked worse, the other injury was much, much more serious.

Hi Gerry,

I get the same thing here in Mexico. Probably, the website only has International Olympic Committee distribution rights for the United States, so they must block requests from I.P. addresses outside of the U.S.

This happens to me all of the time when trying to watch videos from newspaper webpages, or trying to listen to certain radio station audio streams.

I did a Google video search using "Stephan Feck" and found several videos that worked for me, like this one from Peru: El Comercio.pe Link (http://elcomercio.pe/deportes/1453166/noticia-stephan-feck-consiguio-peor-clavado-londres-2012)
