The FCC today denied a petition from Bryan Boyle WB0YLE & H.R. Jim Dixon (no call found) requesting that the FCC designate 146.550 as a "non-exclusive nationwide Amateur Radio Service emergency communications channel using FM wideband modulation."

See http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-12-1226A1.pdf

Reasons boiled down to two things: The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau had previously addressed the issue & determined it was not neccesary, and that the petitioners did not present any grounds for the Commission to propose revising the rules, or show cause that there was an existing problem that needed to be addressed.

And most importantly... there's nothing in the rules that prevents Amateur Service operators from voluntarily designating a frequency for this purpose, if so desired.

They've got the whole band for emergency communications which take priority over all else so why one frequency? Just another lame brained waste of FCC resources better used elsewhere... pppptttttttt.

Any association with the Maritime Mobile Service Net?
