Fat geezer ham edition…
So, I bought a Fitbit Ultra ($100 electronic “activity monitor”). This thing’s way cool. It’s a little stick (about the size and shape of a USB stick). Wear it on your belt like a pedometer during the day and at night you can wear it on your non-dominant wrist and it will track your sleep. Data is collected, analyzed and displayed via the Fitbit web site.
Install some software on your PC, plug the little charging base into a USB port and it’s wireless. Get the device near the charger and it transfers the data automatically. All the “smarts” are on the web site – log in and it gives you graphs, goals, etc.
Really cool device and implementation. It’s amazing they can get an accelerometer, altimeter, 2-way digital radio, and a display in such a small device. Powered by a capacitor that will run for 3 days (guaranteed). It will collect time-stamped data for 7 days before the buffer rolls over.
