I have noticed on some of my storage DVD's, that the information on some of them are degrading with time. That concerns me. So a little research, I found this website:

http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm

Talks about different DVD dye manufacturers and so forth. Last year, I switched to Verbatim AZO brand DVD+R for my storage needs. This line is rated high, and can be purchased for $29 per 100 from Walmart. Great price for top quality.

I found a utility that will read the pre-recorded information on a blank disk, handy tool to have. it is at:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/dvdidentifier.html

Scanned clean by AVG 2012 and Anti-Malwarebytes.

My Verbatim disks are the Mitsubishi Chemical Corp, which is 1st class

A Maxell I have is actually a Ricoh media, which is 2nd class.
Sony DVD+R, as you see in Best Buy, are also 2nd class (Duplicate grade, non-archival)

Disk Buyer Beware!
