I used to work allot of PSK31 and enjoyed looking at SSTV pictures but never sent any.
I quit doing digital modes for a couple of reasons, number 1 being most of these guys like to use Macros for the whole QSO. Macros have their place, but is it really a QSO? BORING! My second reason is that about 4 months into using PSK31 people starting getting into the mode, and most refused to turn their power down. The waterfall was a mess, so I got fed up and quit.
I made my own sound card interface and I've tried to sell and even give it away numerous times and places (even here) and could not give it away. Hell, It's got $20 worth of cables and goodies in it. I re-discovered it last night and decided I'd try it out again.
As I recall, I built this thing in 2007 and wired it up for my Kenwood TS-130 (4-Pin). Imagine my surprise when I found it wired for an 8-pin Icom (My IC-730 maybe?). My memory aint what it used to be, but I am almost certain I didn't wire it up for the Icom..... Maybe the PSK fairies did it.......
So, I rewired it for the TS-570S, installed DigiPan 2.0, set the rig up (10W) into my dummy load, and watched the 40M waterfall and saw one signal... K2L 13 colonies Special event station. I got excited and called him and just as he responded it occurred to me that I had forgotten everything I knew about the PSK31 QSO....
So, now K2L Dennis knows I'm a PSK lid....Damn
I put him in the log though @ 4:25 AM Central Time... my first PSK contact as KA9MOT
