I used to work allot of PSK31 and enjoyed looking at SSTV pictures but never sent any.

I quit doing digital modes for a couple of reasons, number 1 being most of these guys like to use Macros for the whole QSO. Macros have their place, but is it really a QSO? BORING! My second reason is that about 4 months into using PSK31 people starting getting into the mode, and most refused to turn their power down. The waterfall was a mess, so I got fed up and quit.

I made my own sound card interface and I've tried to sell and even give it away numerous times and places (even here) and could not give it away. Hell, It's got $20 worth of cables and goodies in it. I re-discovered it last night and decided I'd try it out again.

As I recall, I built this thing in 2007 and wired it up for my Kenwood TS-130 (4-Pin). Imagine my surprise when I found it wired for an 8-pin Icom (My IC-730 maybe?). My memory aint what it used to be, but I am almost certain I didn't wire it up for the Icom..... Maybe the PSK fairies did it.......

So, I rewired it for the TS-570S, installed DigiPan 2.0, set the rig up (10W) into my dummy load, and watched the 40M waterfall and saw one signal... K2L 13 colonies Special event station. I got excited and called him and just as he responded it occurred to me that I had forgotten everything I knew about the PSK31 QSO....

So, now K2L Dennis knows I'm a PSK lid....Damn

I put him in the log though @ 4:25 AM Central Time... my first PSK contact as KA9MOT

I work PSK31 a lot. You want to try a QSO?

I do! But first I must relearn the software, tecniques and set up some basic macros. I't will be a few days of watching the waterfall before I am ready......

K2K is on now and I want to add him to the log so badly, but I refuse to be a LID again..... not on purpose anyway

Wimp! ;)

Okay, maybe this weekend. In the mean time, remember that if your ALC meter is moving at all on transmit, you're doing it wrong.

Setting up the rig is the only thing I do remember! Funny how that works........ It's the software that I have to relearn......... And the exchange protocol. I know I saved all of my old macros and I am trying to find them now...save some time.

AH-HAH! I've got it figured out...sorta.... More practice is needed!
Just worked K2K NH 13 colonies via PSK! And didn't look like a LID! Only need 8 more!

Well, conditions kinda sucked but we both can add another call to our WAI (Worked All Islanders) list!

Well, that was fun, and I put you in my log Carl! We'll have to try that again when the conditions are a little better. I might mess around on 40M and 80M later if I can remember what frequency is used on 80. I tried 6M earlier today and called and called but no joy..... :(

Thanks for the QSO Carl!

OH Yeah! You were 599! :)

Typical deal, Steve--shortly after I signed off with you, the band really opened up and I worked several European stations.

I designed it myself in Adobe Illustrator. It was printed on a Canon inkjet printer onto glossy photo paper, laminated to a piece of 60 pound white card stock then cut out by hand using an Xacto knife and a straight edge.

As you might guess, they are costly and labor intensive so I don't send many out.

I don't know how I missed this....... Exceptionally done Carl. I'm honored that you sent me one!
