Has anyone tried this tiny Addonics NAS-USB 2 server?
I set up an NAS server powered enclosure with my own 120GB HDD inside thinking to have downloaded emails and files to not be confined to any one PC. It worked well until I managed to demolish it's fixing bracket and send it down 7 feet onto a hard, tiled floor. (Please don't ask). The drive came loose inside and removed a regulator from the PCB which probably sent 12V to the 5V HDD input thereby frying the drive (plenty smoke) and half the enclosure's electronics.
I already had the Addonics NAS server and set it to use a 16GB USB pen drive, it seemed to work OK, less than half the speed of the previous system but never mind. I find the whole thing gets quite warm, including the pen, and am wondering if this is responsible for frequent corruption of email data files? Missus uses Foxmail 6 and I use DreamMail 4 and both are affected. The pen has been swapped but it's still the same.
