View Full Version : What's your favorite "kills everything" vegetation spray?

I'm chopping through some thorn bushes that have gotten a bit out of hand. I've got it pretty much cleared out of one spot and will start working on another after this latest heat wave passes.

Any recommendations for a chemical spray that will kill these bastards (and some other vegetation) permanently? Doesn't matter if it's a "kills everything" product. I'll plant some grass seed next season.

I would use Roundup, it kills broadleaf plants and leaves grasses alone.

Residual "kill everything" chemicals may 'eff with the grass for a few years if you use that.

Industrial strength Roundup.

Kills off anything, including unwanted trees, plants grass in short everything growing.
Sold as clearing grounds of anything that grows and clear up grounds for new use.
Dissolves in weeks so that you can plant again the new vegetation of choice.

I've seen the Round Up kill the grass but it came back after a few months.
There is the concentrated Round Up in a smaller bottle. Supposed to be good for what? The 25, the 30 gallons?

Some diesel fuel, and a fire?

You know, you can pour the diesel or the gasoline directly on the black walnut tree and it just keeps on growing. Yet the tree will randomly drop large branches when left alone.

It works, but it can take several days to weeks to reach full effectiveness.

I buy 5 gallons at a time from my farmer neighbor, he gets it in 55 gallon drums. I mix it lite in a stadard one gallon pressure sprayer. One day, the wind was kicking up when I was doing the driveway. I noticed my neighbors ferns, and evergreen bushes turned brown a week later.....that was 80 feet away!!Strong shit!!!

I won't use that stuff. God knows what kind of damage and ill health affects it is having on humans, pets, and helpful animals and insects. My yard is pesticide/herbicide free.

Look for an Ortho product called Brush-B-Gone. After Roundup failed miserably on some poison oak when I lived in Ca., I tried this...death in days!!

Think it will work on black walnut? Those things suck up gas like it is fertilizer.

Round up is definately my favourite herbicide ..... it's one of the more safer chemicals that "de-activates" as soon as it hits the ground. It's plain murder if gets into any body of water like streams or ponds since it is a water soluble product and will kill fish and water flora. The fastest and scariest stuff i've used was paraquet,it killed vegetation not in days but in hours! ..... I'm not sure if it's still obtainable in the U.S. ..... it was made illegal in Canada a few years.Something about poisoning people rather severely if not handled properly ..... :dunno:

But it worked just dandy!

There once was an herb known as "Acapulco Gold"...very popular in certain circles. Rumor has it that the stuff disappeared largely due to the efforts of the U.S. DEA and its Mexican counterpart spraying those fields of green with paraquat.

Scarier yet was the rumor that it was being used on U.S. soil for the same purposes. At this point I would put nothing past our government.

Metam Sodium seems to be a popular herbicide with the corporate farms in California's Central Valley.
