Yeah....vacation away from making shitty SB coffee in a shitty casino. She really hates her job but is kind of stuck there at the moment, this time off has been great for her. Me too, come to think of it. I should be playing tonight, but i subbed out. I have Colin Hay's bass player sitting in for me. My hands and shoulders need a break.

I'd be in favor of canceling this summer and having fun instead.

Anyone with me?

Beer and a hot dog? Hell, I'd even watch a baseball game!

Wondering where I stashed that CI-V cable, though. Been doing some maybe-prep for a 1B (???) Field Day here (as time permits). It's still legal if I run the logging stuff on commercial mains, right? Not exactly DX. Gotta work up to that.

Ok bass players! Post your pics here....lets see what kind of instruments you have. Or, you can just post random pics of cool basses.Well, me being the garage band player with the occasional gig, My arsenal is much smaller than it was 6 years ago. I used to have a P model looks just like yours, and my first Ricky. i had to part with them to make mortgage payments. Here is what I have managed to accumulate since:
6085
This is a Carvin 5 string fretless. Dont let the visual markers fool you It has the 'bwa rumble' sound that I dig. It was in pristine condition when I got it last year. You can see I have already started wearing the finger board down a bit. I found a Carvin R600 combo amp/cab. It is in pristine condition. If I balance the impedance, and add another cab this puppy will plow 600W!. It has dual passive/active inputs, and is actually a dual amplifier. Just using the current 300W configuration. The best thing about it is it uses tube emulator technology. The finals, are not transistors, they are hard tubes. It sounds like a classic tube amp. I threw in the super whammy pedal. No need for 12 separate pedals. It is programmable, and is easy enough for a dumb redneck like me to use.
Here is what the carvin sounds like, sorry, it is not line in. I used a cheap set of mics to pick up my cd plater: http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/122664/Police_cover_fretless_bass?rn=421r1miihclc

This one is my pride, and Joy. A Rickenbacker 4001 the mid 70's. I replaced the pick ups with classic Ric-toasters. I had to find a tuner from that era, and E Bay pulled through. My research told me they used the same tuners over several model years. I had to look for dings with a magnifying glass. The case is not original, but who cares. It sounds like this, and Trey, it was only me playing line in from a laptop: http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/122630/Tool_Cover.mp3?rn=fmnb6og9q48w

This was my first Bass guitar. An old Fender Jazz bass. As you can see, it has been played hard. The case is original. Unfortunately, the pick ups are dead, and it sounds like $hit. It is more sentimental than anything.

Just an extra, if anyone has never heard a whammy pedal. It takes the plucked notes, and as you move the pedal it moves by 3rds, 5ths, 7,ths it makes cool sounds: This is a borrowed bass from a guy in my dad's band. At 3:38 you can hear the distorted whammy with unmuted vibrating strings. I am then moving the pedal and volume control.

Paul, and Adam has heard these, you guys can move along!

Great instruments there! Love the Ricky...i need to get another one. Lost mine in 1985. What year is the J bass? I think you told me, but i forgot. I know they havent made any in recent decades with the finger bar on the pickguard like that. I have to post a pic of my entire collection when i can get to it if we are going to go there.

On 1-10, he'd rate it as a "5" at least.

A pic of My three Basses, from left to right; 2012 Fender Blacktop Jazz (P/P), Early 90's Alvarez 6-string (J/J), Mid 80's Ibanez w/Bartolini pups, the black "pike" headstock, and Hipshot D-tuner (P/J)

...and a pic from last weekend's MDA benefit, where I was suffering from severe hernia problems and in total shock. I hardly remember anything...I was in the self-preservation zone.
Rocked it like a pro behind a curtain of pain.

You need better drugs Trey. You're making love to it. Back when I was playing that punk sound, I beat the hell out of that instrument. Usually, went through 2 sets of strings a night. Then I learned to let the amplifier do the work. Ive said it b4, you have a music store in your mancave.

I have to post a pic of my entire collection when i can get to it if we are going to go there.A couple of digits are hard to read. if I use the lower of what it looks like to me, it was made in 1969. if I used the higher digit, probably 1971. My Dad bought this for me in 1975, used. So I know it is older than that. It looked brand new, but my rings chewed up the side. The local punk band I played in, I was very rough with it. I never smashed it up, that is for rich players who destroy the free advertisements. Notice it looks like Jaco's?
