INCOMING CMES: On June 14th, for the second day in a row, sunspot AR1504 erupted and hurled a CME toward Earth. The fast-moving (1360 km/s) cloud is expected to sweep up a previous CME and deliver a combined blow to Earth's magnetic field on June 16th around 10:16 UT. This animation shows the likely progression of the approaching storm:

Stay outside the eearths protective atmosphere and you will neeed factor 2 million to prevent burns....
80 Meter terrible propagation last weeks, 40 so so, 160, 100 miles groundwave fine just Europe at night...

I was wondering about 20m and up.

I worked ZS4TX on 12m RTTY late this morning. Not very strong, but he was definitely there. Also worked JA9LJS on 17m SSB with 100 watts an hour or so before the ZS.

There's stuff out there. You just have to listen a bit more carefully.

Could make for some interesting VHF propagation too. I'll put the scanners in bandscope mode then set them to sweep 30-50MHz and log whatever they come across. Enough activity might foretell a good 6M opening.

In the mid and late 90s, I used to hear Mexican police in the 30Mhz range and somewhere around 41Mhz AM, I could pull in BBC relay transmitters with a triple conversion RS Pro 60 connected to the Antron 99.

Anything above 7.9e9999 mc or higher in freq is the work of the devil.

I thought 12m was pretty good this morning, at least good enough to put A6 in the bag.

And get off John's lawn!

I'm hearing weak SSB on 50.125. Last time I was in the yawd, I noticed the broken rotor cable (turns a 3-El Cushcraft). Prolly ran the bastid over with the yawd mower.

Fookin' lawns, anyway.

The SMIRK contest is running. A Fla station is booming up here in 8 land. Tx has 30 over 9 sigs as well. Funny how the magic band always opens up for a contest.

Time to go do a minor inspection of my minor aluminum aerial apparatus, me thinks...

The sun "hurls" ?

Usually on Saturday mornings, after a long night.

Having just worked P29FR with 100 watts, I'd say so. 14.185 if anyone is interested.

Bit of a bummer here too, listening 14.185, faint stations here, cooking evening dinner now.... more productive as it seems.

Well, looks like it took a little longer to get here than they thought.

The pickings are slim today.

15m is practically a ghost town.
