I know, we are all too old to be eating hotdogs and they are bad for our health. But I love a good hotdog!! Of course they picked Nathans Dogs as number one. I have to agree and grudgingly give New York City credit for that one. I guess to me, the Nathans Hotdog tastes the closest to the German "Wurst" I grew up with as a kid.

Clemson Ag center said it would bloom after 5 years. Bloomed in 2. They came and took a graft off of it and have advanced the breed for farmers in the Southern US.

For fast food hotdogs, I always liked Mighty Casey's. Too bad that Krystal bought them out, for their restaurant locations, and immediately converted them all to Krystals.

And rightfully so you should give credit where its due. They have a huge immigrant population there dating from way back. So it's no surprise that some of the best ethnic recipes came out of New York. So many people came over there from overseas and brought their cuisine with them.

I cook alotta hotdogs for our Crest Kiwanis. Just did last Thursday, in fact, for the Crest School picnic. Went through about 30 packages of them until we ran out. I stole one off the grill as it was too BURNT to serve to the kids. These hot dogs split open from being BBQ'd. BUt I am sure they enjoyed them regardless. I enjoyed the CARCINOGEN-DOG! When I have access to cheese, I burn them thoroughly, slice them open and put cheese strips inside. WONDERFUL DOGS!!! And best when I don't hafta PAY for them!!! Our Field Day is CHARGING members for hamburgers and Hot dogs this year. SUCKS!! Guess I will hafta bring my Top Ramen.

Katz deli down on Houston St in NYC still makes an excellent frankfurter. Had one not long ago with mustard, saurkraut and a kasha knish on the side and it was quite good. Only thing that's changed is the price... more expensive these days like everything else.
Hebrew National and Sabrett make some good ones if youre making them at home. There's a store not far from me that sells fresh hot dogs that are excellent.

For fast food, I kinda like the Sonic New York Dog...
Hebrew National just edges out Nathan's Famous, but you won't go wrong with either.
A not to close third is a brand called "New York Deli" which tend to be pretty thick.
The wurst? Chicken dogs. Even the mutt won't eat those.
Oh, and the stadium-served dogs are in a class by themselves. PNC Park used to serve Hebrew National foot longs, fantastic... but expensive. Now they use a local brand (Silver Star, I believe) which aren't all-beef, so there goes those. Nothing like eating a dog while watching a good ball game... now both good dogs & good ball games are in short supply...
And... in NYC, you can get onions cooked in a red sauce (it's tomato based, but it's not ketchup) Almost no one around here knows how to make those; a friend of mine does, but I don't run into him too much anymore. Those I miss!

Why is Mexican tuna so expensive?
Because it's spelled inside out: atun. Makes it cost more.

FUD is one of the more ubiquitous brands down here in Mexico. Not a premium brand, but they're not bad. I prefer their turkey hot dogs, though. As you said, in Spanish, the brand is pronounced "FOOD" -- not like Elmer "FUD". :)

I agree. My preference is for the Hebrew National but, like you say, Nathans is right up there.

Also a good brand. I've tried them and felt they were also quite good.

Agree... Chicken franks just don't cut it with me either.

Hot dogs and baseball go together. Matter of fact it's hard for me to think of one without the other. Also goes great with a beer. But not the watered down "beer like liquid" they sell up here at Yankee Stadium at a very high price.. Actually I haven't been to the new stadium yet. I hope they improved on the beer.

Yeah, the "onion sauce".. At least that is what I call it. Although my preference is for mustard and saurkraut the onion sauce is a pretty good second.

First you have to understand the nature of hot tuna.

First you have to understand the nature of hot tuna.Hot Tuna? I thought that was the band made up of some of the members of Jefferson Airplane, while that group was on hiatus during Grace Slick's recovery from throat surgery. Story goes is that they used that name because the label wouldn't let them use their original choice... Hot $h!t

Hmmm... haven;t noticed if Sabrett is still around. good knishes go great with a kosher hotdog. I prefer the kasha knishes but I also like the potato knishes with a dab of mustard.

I dont often eat hotdogs but when I do they are the cheapest brand they have at the local store. I am just gonna put them on a stick and burn them over a fire anyway. At which point the get covered in mustard, onions, and pickle relish. Sometimes chili is added.
No damn ketchup.
What's a knish?
Jewish dim sum.Hadn't thought of it that way, but yes.
Here's a pretty dry explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knish
When I was growing up in NJ, there was a local chain called Cohen's Knishes; had one restaurant right up the street from us. Unbelievably good.
Sadly, the chain is no more, though I understand the company (now under a different name due to corporate mergers) is still around, and their products are still available.

Actually the generic Chinese name jaiozi translates to pot stickers, dim sum is one of several varieties. Once upon a time Irvington, NJ had a fair sized Jewish population and in the heart of it was a Chinese restaurant with a trilingual menu, Chinese, English and Hebrew. That's how I remember how to say knish in Chinese.
The best hot dogs in the entire world come from a small plant here in Oklahoma, make either Nathans or Hebrew National taste like sawdust. Name of the place is Greer's, and their dogs are to die for. They also do some really excellent chorizo, which is mandatory for a top notch burrito.

Best I've had (And Sabrett is kinda close) are Sahlen's. I don't think you can get them outside of WNY, however:

You keep the chili, makes things too sloppy for me.
They're all off my menu now, but when I could eat them, it was either mustard and cheese or the canonical mustard and sauerkraut.
