Getcher Gonset Communicator IV right heah! (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/ele/3053750341.html) Fifty bucks. I'm tempted myself but I know I'd never use it.

Sweet Eye candy but otherwise useless. OK, maybe not totally useless. You can always slope tune it to listen to repeaters.

Somewhere up-stairs , I have a Hallicrafters 2M A.M. rig , and Out in the shop there is a Heath "TWO'er" (lunch-box) .
As to use,, there's not much on the F.M. repeaters around here or SSB and I don't know of anyone else within 100 miles or more who has any 2M A.M. gear, working or not.

One of my friends in the area has quite a bit of Clegg gear and plays around with 6 and 2M AM quite often. I don't have anything in line at the moment which will transmit AM on anything above 6, so the best I can do is to listen.

If you ever want to part with that Hallicrafters, PM me.

I have a few Twoer's out in the garage. One is an outright parts rig, the other two appear to be intact. One of my projects for the upcoming winter will be to get at least one of them working again, just for fun.

The Gonset brings back memories, but not of 2 meter AM. More like 6 meter AM, back in my Novice days. A friend was involved in county RACES, and operated from the county comm center (today we'd say EOC) every other week for the RACES drill. I had a lot of fun doing that, back in the day.

Just saw a Heathkit Seneca in very good, maybe excellent shape cosmetically, at the last hamfest I was at. VERY tempting...but what the heck would I have done with it?

Not the one I saw...but very close.

here is the very RAREST of 2 meter AM rigs: The SONAR CD-2

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3591/3404951335_5de89038ab_z.jpg?zz=1

The Crest Radio Museum has virtually ALL the 2 meter AM rigs ever produced, except for a few obscure ones never imported.
I need to find a Trio 2M AM if any of those still exist.

I speciallized in 2 meter AM since it was my first love in Ham radio. Betcha haven't seen a Lafayette HA-144 or the larger HA-(Oh I forget the model number!) I have them!

Not 2M, but I had a couple HA-460s over the years. My friend Carl, KB8ATN (SK) owned the 10M version of that rig when I first met him back in the early 80s.

I not only have SEEN an HA-144, I HAD one at the old QTH. Alas, it was one of many items that were sold off when I was out of work a few years back.

Ever seen a Polycom? I had a PC-6 (6 M AM) that was also lost at that time, I never had the 2 M version, which I believe was a PC-2. Lost my 6 & 2 Meter Hallicrafters Transverters at the time as well. * sigh *

Here's my Polycomm PC-2 I got at the Santee Swapmeet for $30! works great!

Good looking rig. The PC-6 was almost identical, although mine was blue, not red. I believe they had a dual-band version as well.

I had some fun with that rig, doing a little 6 M AM mobile with a big halo on the back of my AMC Ambassador, until a voltage spike blew something in the rig. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted...

What a classic!

On the subject of 2m AM, anyone remember a one tube HB 2m transceiver using a 76 tube? Saw it in a non-ARRL handbook, probably from the 40's. I'm sure that its spectrum was as fresh and pure as the driven snow!

I have a Johnson 6&2 rig in the closet somewhere. It was originally designed to plug into a Viking 2 or Valiant to supply the power and AM modulation. Many years ago I built up a power supply for it and modulated the VFO and used to on FM. I even talked into a few repeaters with it by transmitting on the input and listening to the output on a scanner. But that was long ago. I never used it on 2 meter AM. Never caught much activity there in this neck of the woods. 6 meters might be interesting. I have a 6 meter beam antenna sitting around here. Also have a 10 element 2 meter beam.

I really miss 2m SSB. Had lots of fun on that mode (living on a mountain top helped that a lot, of course) in the early 80's. Wish activity would pick up. Beams for 2m are so easy and cheap to make.

See those beautifully decorted radios regularly at hamfests.

Yeah, I still got that antenna. It was up for years then finally got blown down in ta thunderstorm. It had a slight bend but I fixed it and put it back up but I discovered my rotor was broke. So I've got a new rotor on order and that antenna will be going back up. If I get a strong enough mast I might piggyback the 6 meter beam for a ride.

Beams for 2m are so easy and cheap to make. When NØVLR gave me the tower, Paul also gave me the remnants of what had been a 6 & 2 meter Lightning Bolt quad. The boom is intact, most of the 2 M arms are there, but the 6 M arms are missing. Someone had tried to adapt this poor thing for 70 cm as well...

Shouldn't be too hard to fix the 2 M arms & restring it as a 4 element quad, though.

5981Back in the dark ages, when I was a senior in High School, I got involved in the drama club & acted a little bit (preparing for today's Zed, I'm sure... *ahem*). One day, they found one of those in a forgotten corner of the backstage area. I ALMOST talked the drama teacher into letting me take it home...

There used to be a relative ton of those stashed in potential CD shelters. I'm sure a good many were left to rot, or when the shelter was repurposed, got tossed. But you still see them at hamfests... heck, someone had a couple of those, some dosimeters, and official CD tins of water & biscuits at Dayton this year!

I have yet to hear a 2 meter amer. I normally do cw on 2, and 6. I worked a French station on 6M CW the last opening. I was so thrilled to do DX on a local band. Did it with 5 watts still QRP. I still need 5 more cards for WAS QRP. Most of my friends in this zone need the same 5 cards.
