It looks like an affordable fun little toy. I was just wondering if anyone had any input on these and your overall impression?

Used to own a K2. I'm (currently) a SSB guy only, and I thought it was great, within its limitations - although the CW guys in our club that use them for FD love 'em.

Sold it because I didn't take it portable as much as I thought I would, and I still listen to enough out-of-ham band stuff to need that for a home rig (as well as 6m). Currently waiting for the KX3 100W amp module to come out, I think that'll be the Elecraft I stick with for a while :)

As opposed to CCW?

I have friends in the area who own them, at least one of whom equipped his K2 with the DSP unit and a number of other options. They all love the rigs - and are CW ops.

I actually enjoy a good mug of tea...so, by default, i ride dangerously close to that line.

Thats what i figured. I have my sights set on the K3, but my wife is excited by these little rigs...not because she is interested in anything ham radio, but because its $2k less.

My friend Steve owns both. He's said on numerous occasions that if your main interest is CW, you'll do fine with a K2.

Cool! Why not have a fleet of Elecraft? :agree:

Cool! Why not have a fleet of Elecraft? :agree:My friend Bill W3WH has a K1, K2 & a K3. The K3 is his "primary" rig right now, since his recently purchased Omni V had an issue (exactly what I don't know, suffice to say that something wasn't right) and is heading home to Sevierville for a check-up.

I've used the K3, but not the others.

From what I've gathered from Bill, he likes all three rigs. But he doesn't use the K1 or K2 much. He is toying with parting with the K2 in order to use the funds towards a future radio... I don't know if he will go through with that though.

There's a K2 on QTH at the moment for $700.

$700? Woof!

Is it a K2/10 or a K2/100?

I think I paid somewhere around that for mine; DSP board would be nice to have, though.

If they made a 2m/440 rig, I wouldn't have a need to buy anything else :-D
