Tom Hanks raised the nation's awareness helping to build a memorial to honor the fallen heroes of WWII. There is a wonderful charity to mention for this holiday. Honor Flight Network arranges free transportation for any WWII vet to visit the memorial in Washington, DC. This allows our few remaining heroes to see this sight, for those lacking the means to make the trip.
The charity was founded right here in my home town, Springfield, Ohio. The effort is now nation wide.
This is one of the things that makes my home town a decent place to live. Seeing these heroes encounter the memorial brings tears to my eyes. It is worth checking out.
