And look what I got!
5834
It is a MXL 990 Studio Mic with a 48V homebrewed PS, homebrewed voltage injector box, homebrewed PTT switch (which I re-engineered) and a cool mic stand. Everybody says this thing sounds very good. I really like it, but it takes up so much room on my desk......I'm gonna have to homebrew a boom!
So, when are we gonna have a Islanders net? Who wants to hear it?
Great score on the mic! What did you trade for it?

His virginity.
Was that the mic you were using on 40 the other night?

It's all about the girth with that mic.

No, I was using the stock hand mic. The stand for this mic takes up too much space on my desk, so I need to find a boom. Until then, it is on the shelf but I'll probably take it down and play with it.

I thought so. I haven't done any A/B comparisons but everybody says it sounds good and I enjoy talking to it because it makes me feel like a radio broadcaster........ LOL!

Not really. It won't work in the US but it makes a nice conversation piece.

Just as long as you don't get it gold anodized, get your chair embroidered with your own logo and start a prescription drug habit.

Taking into consideration blacksmiths and silversmiths, the mere thought of what a dicksmith does makes me uncomfortable.

I believe you are referring to a ''cocksmith.''

I still need to find a boom and in my search I see their are many choices. I suspect maybe Bob Heil re-brands some of this stuff (you'll notice the resemblance of my mic to his) and marks it up a substantial amount. The places I have been looking for Mic booms are the same outfits that supply the music industry and there is a significant difference in price for stuff that looks the same as what Bob sells..

I didn't dabble too much in broadcast stuff when I was in commercial A/V, but Heil's prices didn't strike me as being that far out of the ballpark. Check out O.C. White booms if you want a look at what professional-level stuff goes for :-p

That's what I use (O.C. White boom). It wasn't that outrageous new - $132 I see now: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/557226-REG/O_C_White_14295_B_ProBoom_Elite_Microphone_Arm.htm l And that's before adding mounts, etc.
Seems pricey for what it is, but it's well built. I've got mine on a 10" riser mounted to the back of the desk.
