Bass players(and music fans) should note the passing of Duck Dunn earlier today in Tokyo at age 70. One of Booker T's MG's, then the bassman for the Blues Bros band Duck was truly one of the best in the biz.

Agreed! Duck Dunn was a classic pro. All players and bass scholars should listen to guys like him, T Bone Wolk, Lee Sklar, Bob Babbit, etc....THAT is great playing. He will be missed.

I felt the need to make it clear just how prolific this gentleman was...it seems to be missing in both threads.

Most people know about the MG's and the Blues Brothers gig, but you've heard his vibe throughout your life whether you know it or not. It is an amazing body of work, and includes some of the most popular/heavily played song in the RnB and Rock crossover world.

Here is my bassgod. It would be hard to list the 2000 plus credits he has. If one listens to the radio for an hour, watch a movie on tv, or a tv show he probably heard this guy play at least twice.

Hey man, I'm just an old roadhouse hack.
Gotta lotta crazy stories, but no real touch me moments.

But there was this one time...gunfire...titties...police speeding AWAY from the scene...naked families, monster trucks trying to push the juke joint off the hill... etc. etc.
Wait. Did I say one time?
You ain't been nowhere until you've been held captive by a bunch of hillbillies that are determined to party you under the hill and hand you all their hard earned cash at daybreak.

These are the moments that every player needs to have a few of. One day, if we find ourselves in the other ones neck of the woods, we need to grab some coffee and trade stories...i got an Anvil road case full of them. Would like to hear some of yours.

You mean like the time our frontman ran straight off the stage and across four rows of tables before he knew what happened and wiped out row 5.
He made a strike BTW. All them pinheads in the floor, wondering what hit'em.

Thats great! I love seeing that.

A couple of weeks ago, we JUST started our first song of the night (4 - 45 minute sets, mind you)....the entire dance floor erupted in violence. Some drunk bitch took exception to some other drunk bitch, came up and smacked her, then the other chicks drunk guy pushed that one down...and you know what happens after that. Drunk idiots swinging everywhere, one end of the dance floor to the other. The real ass whooping didnt start until my buddies in the yellow shirts showed up! The security at the venue are underpaid and under appreciated, they are just looking for an excuse. My buddy James, a 6' 3", 300lb Hawaiian gang member marched right into the middle of them and cleaned house. Then came Carl, a 50-something happy-go-lucky white dude...who is special forces and looks like Vladimir Putin. Tearing shit up! Then the Kuyas, my Filipino buddies...always like to mix it up. The Yellowshirts came from all directions...followed some time later by the laziest old tub of shit security guy who slowly walked in and looked around, then left. This lasted for about 10 minutes...we have a clock onstage.

The funniest part....the fight broke out once we started playing "Where is the Love" by Black Eyed Peas. A song about peace, understanding and unity.

We didnt stop, we just kept playing like nothing was happening. I just watched the stairs to my left, if someone came up to start it there, bossman said i can light 'em up. Ive done it before. Nobody came up, which is good, because i was busy spreading the motherfuckin' peace and love to these assholes!

Gettin' an early start!
That kind of brawl was usually reserved for the last 187 minutes of fooking Freebird (which I detest, whole nuther story(s) behind that) when I played with Lixx... yes, really, that was the name...

wait this is going to take far too long.
...we have to do this sometime....
This'll be fun...I've got some lifelong scars that need healing.
