Saw this in an MLS listing. I fish near this thing and never knew it was for sale. I could just see IOMH painted on its side. Three miles out to sea, no tower restrictions, 4500 Gal Diesel fuel tank for the generator, and a toilet out on deck that craps into the bay. (Might have to modify that). Talk about your remote stations :) It includes 1/2 acre waterfront property for a boat dock and landlubbers house. Only $288,000! Its tax exempt to boot!

I guess the second photo is what it looks like at high tide, eh?

That's the view from the waterfront property. The Lighthouse is 3 miles out from there. Hey, if the Country tanks, very good place to hang out. Its very defensible!

For less than that I can get a nice place in Lastres which is a fishing village. =)

I wonder if there are any state, or federal, "historical landmark preservation" type of restrictions that would prohibit massive antenna arrays? or painting it fluorescent pink?

Hell of a moat.

The Coast Guard tried to give it away to a Historical Group that would preserve it. There were no takers, so the Coast Guard auctioned it off to private ownership. They wanted to turn it into a bed and breakfast, but couldn't get the loans. A Veterinarian from South Carolina is trying to get rid of it along with .68 acres of waterfront land to sweeten the pot. I'm guessing you can do whatever you want to it. It is on a shoal with about 7 foot water depth. The Cast Iron caisson is filled with concrete and sunk about 25 feet into the bottom. Been there 150 years, it'll be there another 150! Its already about 50 ft above the water. It wouldn't need much of a tower or ground.

Being in Chesapeake Bay, you'd have no problem catching crabs! :)

Heck, since the crapper is out on the deck, you can literally catch crabs from your toilet seat!

Stripers, Spadefish, Blues, Spanish Mackerel, Redfish but no Mahi, sorry.

I think you're looking at another 250-500 grand in restorations.

Party Pooper! Ya, not to mention the cost of a boat to haul stuff to and from the lighthouse

It would be kind of neat to run a DX Expedition out there.

Considering the the proximity to an abundance of salt water on all sides, a good GP would be sufficient to get all over the world.

Maybe we could get a sub-prime mortgage?

Bought for 119K and selling for 288K. Not a bad ROI, should he get it.

I think it'd be way cool. For a week or two, anyway. As a rental property, somebody should be able to really make some moolah. Charge extra during hurricane season (because you know it'll still be there).

MUCH cooler than the missile silos that sometimes come up for sale out this way.

Bomb shelters converted into homes are popular around my home town. About 15 miles away to be exact.

It's on the NRHP list. Could make erecting towers difficult.

Would suck to hafta take a ROW BOAT to work everyday though. But it would be fun to DX from. Great radio location!!!!
And then they have these "LIGHTHOUSES ON THE AIR" events every year where U could be your own DX station!
