And I just found it randomly while looking for local grocery store weekly ads.

Nice how the dad uses filthy-mouth to talk to his 9-year-old son.
That spoiled the fun for me. Totally unnecessary to the story.

Stephan King wrote that he used potty-mouth
in his writing because "that's the way people talk." WRONG.
People are lemmings; they religiously follow their (mis)leaders even if going over a cliff.
King and others have it backwards:
People talk that way because their pop-culture idols write, sing and talk like that.
If the pop-idols cleaned-up their mouths, the lemmings would conform in a week.

I'm sorry; I know the rest of the human race has decided that "F!*%$ YOU!"
is an acceptable variation to "Good Morning," and one is all but required to
inject it into each and every sentence. I expect to hear it in a church sermon
just any day now, but I still feel nasty when I hear it, and I feel even nastier
when I slip-up and say it. I guess I'm just an old nut-case because I will
get up and leave a movie I've paid to see after I've heard enough "F*!$k,"
and I won't go to see one that is R-rated for language.
I really enjoy big-screen movies, but I don't go to them so I can feel soiled and nasty.
I've never seen a single one that wouldn't have made just as much
money without all the needless, gratuitous filthy-mouth, and
current music is even worse. I don't allow it in my home and my
four daughters, thank The Almighty, don't listen to potty music.
I will leave a conversation if one of the participants insists on
injecting nastiness every other word- there are billions of people
in the world, and some of them speak like human beings.
I don't need to listen to an animal fling dung.

Decay is inevitable, I guess, but I don't have to like it.

Just my view and I don't require anyone to agree with it.
YMMV etc. 73 Dave S.

You have to wonder how much of the book is poetic license. I have the book, it is a fun read. But I think the stories were made up or embellished to sell the book. I figure it's a book of what you would love to say to your kids. But as I was growing up, all the neighborhood kids always told me I had the coolest dad because he would fire off a word or two every once in a while.

Even though I don't practice it 100% (maybe 10% on my part), I must agree with Dave. But as stated, I do have the book and it is funny. As one of them old farts said way back when, "A country without morals is a country that will not stand". Which makes me sing:

I was born an American
I was raised an American
And I will die an American
In America

Some of you will get it

No doubt that there was some license taken but, because of his position at the UCSD hospital, the father in question is fairly well-known here in San Diego and the word is that he does indeed really talk like that.

Dave—they're just, you know, words...
"Just words?" Oh my friend; words matter.
Every belief, love, principle, and everything that defines human meaning is expressed in words.
Even the other forms of human expression are conveyed to us using words.
Everything about us passes away (remember Shelley's poem "Ozymandias"),
but our written words give most of us our only chance to carry our ideas and dreams on into eternity.
They are too important to casually smear them with dung.

Everybody watches it. It's just you, Dave and I that actually admit it. Everyone else is just posing, pretending to be a hater and hiding in the GD closet.
