The first little slithering bastid found the end of a shovel last night. As far as what kind it was, it's a dead one. DED!! I hope this isn't a sign of a bumper crop of them this year.

you've got to shoot them in the head. Then they make for good eating.

I've only found two rattlers so far this year. I try to catch them and turn them loose in the wash. They tend to keep the pack rats in check. The snakes don't mess with my truck but the rats sure love to eat on the wires. The bastids.

I see snakes around here every great once in a while. If it's a rattler, I'll catch it then call animal control. They'll come and relocate it to a place more suitable for a venomous snake than a populous suburban neighborhood. If it's anything else, I just leave it alone.

We don't have problems with snakes in this neck of the woods.... occasionally problems with the odd bear ....and even odder cougar (the four legged variety ....not the ones with bad lipstick)

You mean I should not pick up the ones with a triangular head? I just joined a church from West Va. They love the snakes. I learned to speak in tongues this week. Economy Oto!

Similarly here, bears in my compost heap, coyotes in the neighborhood, the occasional fisher and fox.
Biggest cat around here is probably bobcat, but meanest is my cat Scurvy - she attacks snakes and chews off their heads, a practice which she started as a kitten, (on baby snakes, of course).

SoCal is completely OVERRUN with Rattlers!! But, in 10+ years of living here, I have YET to see a snake. Plenty of Lizards and Gophers though. WHY NO SNAKES??? Think they are afraid to come in a yard so full of BLACK WIDDERS!!!

Probably afraid a radio might fall on them.

The snake is symbolic of Satan. There are depictions of the Blessed Virgin Mary stepping on a snake. The process of the BVM stepping on a snake is symbolic of purity versus sin. The Blessed Mary was pure, holy and sinless and she stomps the head of the snake , i.e. Satan into a pulp with her smooth, soft, sexy feet. Well, not exactly but I am sure there are some televangelists who view it that way.

Not a good idea to STEP on a Snake! If it was a RATTLER, you can count on having serious BITES in your legs!
