Well 12.04 was released today.

I managed to grab xubuntu (XFCE) 12.04 few days ago. pretty good. hey XFCE actually looks like a desktop and not like a stupid ipad desktop environment.

I still have no idea what ubuntu was thinking when they made unity default nor any clue wtf gnome was thinking following them into the shitpile with gnome 3.

I don't have any problems with Unity, or Gnome3. I don't care for the Unity desktop, so I simply switch to "classic", which is remembered on my next log-in, and thereafter.

I'm running Ubuntu on a Dell (11.10), a commercial box with an AOpen MB (11.10), and a POS Acer (11.04) desktop at the house. I also run it on my Acer laptop (10.04 LTS) (far better machine than that desktop). No issues, it just works. I also have Windows XP (various flavors from Home to Media Center to Pro) on all the same boxes except the laptop. No issues, they just work.

No hurry to try the latest and greatest Ubuntu here. I usually wait a few months for them to shake the bugs out.

Thanks for the tip. Reminded me that KB3ERQ & I were playing with my old Compaq server with an older version, and never did finish it off. Er, finish the job.

Since the boss has been quietly reminding me to "get that thing out of our training room one of these days, will you?" we're going to download the software today, and spend a few lunch hours on it next week.

I think I'll wait a bit while they shake the bugs out.

Xubuntu tended to be the most stable, of the spins I've seen. I think it's due to Xfce's small size, and slow dev cycle.

I run Fedora. Nice thing about fedora is by the time you install Fedora 16 it's time to download and Install Fedora 25 :-D

Easy to tell there's a new Ubuntu release. The update servers are slow as snot.
