Just because one of the MISFIT's has been taken from the Island, doesn't mean we should forget the happy times we spent with them. Does it?

No worries. We can't all know everything all the time. We should remember him on his birthday and how we're still all friends not only here, but in the hereafter.

It's okay, no one ever pays their tab here on the Island anyhow. Mine is currently equal to the GNP of Montenegro.

Happy birthday Russ - wherever you are - and we see yet another clog in the machine which needs addressed. Namely, the birthday counter for our SK-status members...the ranks of which hopefully won't see new additions for a long time to come.

I miss Russ, Albert, and Mack. Russ and I were on opposite ends of the spectrum politically, but he sent me several pleasant PM's during his stay here. Mack and I agreed on almost nothing, and he never could get past those issues with me. Albert was a dear friend who I had the absolute pleasure of speaking to several times by phone, and I shared a considerable amount of correspondence with him on various matters. I would break bread and shake hands with all of these gentlemen if the opportunity were still there, and I regret that I never had the chance to meet, in person, any of them.

Happy Birthday, Russ, we'll turn out the light for you.

I'll do a poll this weekend and let you guys decide if we want the birthday announcements for our SK members to remain. Let's table that thought for now in honor of our departed friends.

Thought about this for a minute... and kinda like the idea of remembering everyone at least annually; Birthdays seem like a good way to do it.
took a minute to get past the awkward, but, The sentiment seems very Island-like and positive.

Thinking about it and remembering the members that are not longer here and if that can be done with saying H.B. fine.
I had the peasure to have a bunch P.M's with Albi, and met the rest here on the board, it certainly added to my life.

If my presence can do the same, i'm happy, though i realise i will never be anywhere close in the same league as Albi.
Just more kudo's to him and his legacy.

Russ and I rarely saw eye to eye on political/social issues. He was too damn nice of a man to even hold 1 second of bitterness against. He was a classy human being, knowing that, there is no doubt that he was a classy radio operator as well.

Happy birthday my 5 land friend!

I would say so. For our friends to honor and our opponents to do away with old animosity...i think it would be classy and true Island spirit. Thats my vote. :)

I agree wholeheartedly with that. I wonder if selecting one day out of the year to remember and honor all of our SK friends from the Island might be in order. A day to reflect on how they touched our lives and maybe re-post some threads or quotes that are memorable, or a humorous personal interaction. An annual "wake" of sorts. Perhaps call it SK Day.

I'm truly sorry to hear of the passing of Russ. We agreed on absolutely nothing, but he was always a class act, even when he was wrong.

I don't believe in the afterlife, but Godspeed, my friend Russ. You were truly a good human being.

Seems we've lost a few. I miss 'em all; Albi in particular (that's kinda selfish -- he had so much left to teach me!). I'd vote for just keeping their birthdays alive - a day for them individually, in remembrance. Voting the Pope's ticket on this one. ;)

Each of our SKs should have a day of remembrance of their own, rather than sharing.
There's no problem with calling it a birthday, as their birth was not negated by their death, and the mechanism needs no changing.

And who says they're gone? Those bar tabs are going up MUCH faster than even the hardiest of living Islanders can manage alone. I suggest we put up a GhostCam near the bar and investigate the matter.

More like Pope Carlo's bar tab going up....ESPECIALLY with Albi's taste for über-premium single malt.....
