Monte Cristos are nice. Not that I'm an expert or anything, I smoke about four cigars a year.

Yes! The white box. Morning at the hamfest, it hits the spot.

Nope. But if anyone knows where I can get long and very skinny panatellas, like Banacek smoked (got 'em from 21 Club), please let me know. Been in lots of smoke shops & it seems as if they're not made anymore?

Well, Don Pepin Garcia is supposed to be a fine cigar maker. Raised in Cuba and now working out of Miami he is supposed to be a maker of very fine cigars. Judging from the Don Pepin Garcia cigar I have on hand it looks like a finely made cigar and the workmanship and tobacco quality look quite fine. Of course the real test will come when I smoke it.

John, if you really want a cigar experience, go to the old stand bys, H. Upmann or Monte Cristo white box. A Fuente Hemmingway Short Story is also a good one to try. Of those 3, the Upmann is the richest.

I'll keep those in mind. When it comes to tobacco I am mostly a fine pipe or redneck (Red Man) chew man (hows that for extremes) . But a good cigar is a treat. However i am surprised nobody's heard of Don Pepin. They are supposedly quite good. But I will be able to tell more once I smoke one. In any event, I'll try the Upmann.

Keep in mind that some cigars are exclusive to set shops. Example, I like Olor and I can only get them from one supplier.

Yes, a cigar is to enjoyed while sitting down with all your comfortable surroundings and other things that you may wish. Like a good meal, a real cigar is to be contemplated over. Sometimes paired with an alcoholic beverage or coffee and sometimes a neutrally sweetened dark chocolate.
The cigar maker is like a fine chef. The maker is trying to romance you with a fine combination of tobaccos, aging and curing and final presentation. Depending on your mood, you could opt for a single, double or even triple fermented wrapper. The undertones and flavors are subtle and akin to savoring a fine, well age scotch or cognac.

Poetry it tis, pure poetry. However, I never felt any of that when I lit up one of my Tiparillos. Maybe it was the matches?

oooh that chocolate looks like it's coarse ground nibs.....

Although I know that the bourbon in the picture is of very superior quality, I'll pass. Likewise with the cigars.

Could use the bourbon and the chocolate to make a sauce.

The one thing i do know about cigars is that i wish for them to be somewhere other than right in front of me and my microphone while im trying to sing. It just literally shuts my lungs down and i start to sound like John Mayer......NOBODY should ever sound like John Mayer!!

...forgot to mention, im down for that chocolate in the bowl (granted, thats indeed what it is), and i rather enjoy the smell of a good pipe tobacco. Maybe its a "Bass player from Maine" kind of thing (i.e. Duck Dunn from the Blues Brothers), but either way, its nice and would make me look really cool while playing a big upright bass on a jazz gig.

Oh, turtleneck! I will need a turtleneck if im gonna pull that look off.

Although I've never smoked one myself, I have heard the same—that they really are no better than cigars out of other countries and that their cachet comes purely from their unavailability here in the U.S. It's the old people-want-what-the-authorities-say-they-can't-have syndrome at work, much like it worked with alcohol during the Prohibition era or the way it's working with cocaine and pot now due to the so-called War on Drugs.

I will say, though, that my boss was smoking a Cubaņo someone brought back from Canada for him at work a while back and it sure did smell nice.

YES!!

I am picturing a Dick Smothers/Bob Ross sort of thing going on. The suede vest with tassles....or a big Sonny Bono style fur vest...maybe some green corduroy pants and big brown boots with tall heels. I am balding so NOW is the time to grow out the hair and frizz it up like Art Garfunkle or Steven Wright.

You know, i am feeling pretty good about the future of my career right about now. :-D
