Reputable Freeware will have op out choice for their products, but can be confusing on install. It is best to run the software in a sandbox, I use VMware for this, and check the Windows Task Manager for potential leaks and unwanted applications.

Prolific with video and audio conversion programs.

Whenever you come up across a piece of freeware, Google it with the word 'review' after it. Look for reputable reviewers and look for the pro's, con's, toolbars, and OpenCandy. CNET is not a reliable source for reviews. I use this: http://www.techsupportalert.com/

OpenCandy is said to inventory programs you have installed, and report back for advertisements. Should be avoided.
More on OpenCandy here: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/controversial-advertising-program-now-being-embedded-more-software.htm

Here is a list of programs using OpenCandy from a forum in Videohelp.com: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/339221-Is-Super-known-to-install-any-extras-other-than-OpenCandy?p=2110074&viewfull=1#post2110074

I have brought up Super (video conversion), by erightsoft, in the past. When I redid my Computer hard drive last December, I did not install it, and now is not recommended with its association with openCandy

Best video/audio conversion program reviews, with toolbar/OpenCandy disclosures, can be found here: http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-audio-video-format-conversion-program.htm

If it is too good to be true, probably is, but there are exceptions. I use Handbrake to convert to MP4, put on stick and USB portable drive, to use on my DVD player or laptop when I am on the road.

Available for Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows
