I ragged on my WD "My Book" ext HD a while back because it uses one of those mini-USB connectors on the back. It was very touchy & always disconnecting itself. Well, nope! I just put a new cable on it & that seems OK. I can wriggle as much as I want without hearing that "bee-doo" Vista sound when a USB device goes off line.

We'll see, but could be problem is gone.

One good lesson about this, though, is while that was happening the computer and the disk were happy to roll with the punches. Lost no data. Guess the USB connection is very, very robust and can tolerate adverse conditions very well. Very good to know!

Well, of course they can! They go bad if you don't keep them in the fridge ...

I'd keep 'em in the fridge, but the computer always freezes up when I do that.
