Used to get (barely) paid for that when I was a college kid. If you listened to KOSI-FM in the early 80's, it was on an antenna I helped install. Job interview: "Do you have any relatives who care if you die?"

Biggest job I ever did was painting a 380' NOAA weather tower north of town. Started at the top of the 6th stripe at about 327 feet (pack a lunch; it's a job just getting there). You have no idea how far you can throw a paint can lid from that height. Worst part of the job was getting the epoxy based paint out of your hair.

In retrospect, that was probably the best job I ever had. Shoulda persued it.

That's nothing. These Russian kids hang out on the edges of 1000' foot towers for relaxation and sheer fun. That crazy Russian girl has nerves of steel. And check out that guy that stands on the very edge. he's even sicker.

.Back when I was a young and stupid college student, I assisted the chief engineer on a tower climb at WWUH, the college radio station. Their transmitter was at the base of the tower that also housed the WFSB-TV radar dome, high atop Avon Mountain, Connecticut. Seems the connector from the end of the Heliax that connected to the base of the antenna needed to be replaced. Did I mention that we did this job in the middle of January, with light snow falling at the time? And we had to make doubly sure the guys at the studio didn't fire up the radar? (The station said we had an hour and a half to fix the problem, good thing the tower was only 100 feet tall)

I don't know what made my butt pucker most, being on that tower in a snowstorm, or driving back down the mountain after the job was done.
