"Colitas is little tails, but here the author is referring to 'colas,' the tip of a marijuana branch, where it is more potent and with more sap (said to be the best part of the leaves). ... The Eagles, with the prescience given only to true artists, were touting the virtues of high-quality industrial hemp!"

No kidding, it all started in 1969 with Joe Walsh wearing a silly grin and holding a potted plant on the rear cover of one of my favorite albums, Yer Album by The James Gang. I no longer have the vinyl but I managed to dig up a picture, look closely at the center of the collage. BTW, the inside cover art was done by the famously Zapped R. Crumb. Now you know why his eyes grew heavy, his sight grew dim and he had to stop for the night.

As for the girl with colitis there is always Credence:

Now that I know what colitas is, it makes sense that they always garbled that word up on the air around here when it spun in the 70s.
On a visit to Florida in 79 or near 80, heard it on the air and asked one of my relatives, "What is police dust?" To which the reply was, "Why are you asking that question?" I explained the song said smell of police dust and was told it was probably for finger printing.

Anyway, at some point afterwards, I bought the 45. It's around here somewhere.
