I haven't touched PSK in over a year. I just cleaned up my desk, dug the rig out and am going to play with it a bit. What software is everyone using these days? Right now this laptop is running Windows 7 64 bit, out of necessity (Don't even ask, I'm not happy about it).

For messin around I like FLDigi. Simple no frills, butr good basics and works with everything I tried it with. It runs well on Win7/64.

I think I used it at one time or another. I'll give it another shot, but unfortunately it's going to have to wait, because the power supply for my rig that wasn't working and I fixed, isn't working again. Looks like another cap shorted.

ETA: It's going to be a while before I'm back on the air. When I have the money I don't have the time and when I have the time I don't have the money. Right now I don't have much of either. Oh well.... I guess I'll be off the air for another year or two.

I hope you can find enough of each to get back on the air soon. Hang in there.....

Still have that Atlas 210 (IIRC)?

Thanks :) I've been really busy and haven't had a lot of time to really think about going on the air, but I do have an antenna up and the rig is sitting here so...

Yes. The rig is fine. It seems like I have never-ending power supply issues though.

I have enough parts here to rebuild an RS-20, which is what I think you have. Want 'em?

I love you. I had to replace the 723 regulator, a diode and a cap already. Now another cap is shorted (C1, 1000 uF 35v) and it took out the 723 yet again, and who knows what else.

How much?

Zip.

Zero.

Nada.

Find out what you need and I'll put all of the stuff in a mailer and send it along. I have 723s, the 2N3771 pass transistors, the 2N681 SCR (crowbar) and should have everything else required to rebuild the regulator board.

You rock, Fred. The 723 definitely. I had one I scrounged. The cap I think I have somewhere. The TIP31A and a couple of 1n4002's are shorted... Come to think of it, all the same components I already replaced once are bad again, plus a couple more. I used it less than an hour or two. The supply was modified to use more modern components, like the bridge rectifier instead of discreet power diodes. I'm thinking something's miswired. I'm gonna have to look at this closely before I go putting more components in it and blowing them up too.

OK... looked at it and don't see anything mis-wired. I'm thinking that the TIP31A was on its way out and shorted, taking D1 and D2 out, which shorted and then took the 723 out again. The power transistors appear to be OK.

So... looks like a 723, TIP31A, and four 1N4002's. Plus that cap, but I have one. I might even have more 1N4002's but not sure where in this house they may be ATM.

Schematic I am looking at shows a TIP28, not a -31. Are they the same part, and do you have a link to the schematic you're referencing?

I have a schematic but it shows an RCA29, which you can't find anywhere anymore. What's in the unit is a TIP31A.

I have one of those - just ordered a bunch. Also a collection of 4002s.

Would a higher-current diode with the same or higher PRV be a better choice?

It's rated 100v. I don't think the voltage in this unit gets anywhere near that.

In addition to the 4002s I have a sheetload of 1N5408s - 1000v; 3A.

Think they would be more suitable?

Wouldn't hurt anything!

There's a driver transistor which interfaces the 723 to the TIP31 - I show that as a 2N3806. Is this present on the schematic you have?

Gah! No. I bet I have an old schematic.

In case you haven't seen these:

RS-20A, S are 2/3 the way down the page.

Find your particular schematic...

Find your particular schematic...Thanks! Got a few of those downloaded for my various supplies.

Reminds me that I have to get my RS-20A back from K3VX. Regulator board in it's blown, and I never got around to ordering a new one. (Maybe with these schematics, I won't have to!)

Bump.

Did you get a chance to check the schematics I linked against your supply?

Let me know which one you have and I'll collect some parts...

Just think, you coulda been working on your list, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Had to play tonsil hockey all night.
